Hey Lori.

My wife (also Lori) and I adopted through Children's Bridge. Our first daugher, now 10 yrs old, is from Chongqing and our youngest who is 8 yrs old is from Yulin, which is in northern Shaanxi. We've travelled with a few Ottawa families through our journeys to China.

We live in Newmarket and are lucky to live in a pretty strong China adoption area -- the girls even have class mates who are adopted from China.

We're in the midst of planning a homeland tour for May 2012 and can't wait to get back and visit China!

Hello Lori- Nice to hear from you.I usually live in Ottawa but am in the US for a few months. I now wear an older Indian Remy Yaffa-that I had cut down by Aaron at Studio B on Bank St in the Glebe-she runs a funky little salon and is not afraid to cut wigs- I am so -oo- way out of that age range-I am retired now-but she was great to work with and didn't make me feel "too old".
I also wear a very short Milano EHH wig-that I bought from a vendor in Montreal.Milano is one of the Brooklyn Jewish companies that make good quality EHH wigs-but with very standard caps. But not many make short wigs.
Allegria in Toronto also can do a short wig but none of those companies are able to get much blond hair-so I had to get highlights added to make the hair look more blond.
I am not interested in vacuum wigs because I get so hot so haven't really got into any chats about them-although I know they get really good quality EHH.
I don't trust Continental in TO because of their prices-they were bad in 1969 and I don't think they are any better now. Also, because I wear short hair I find most vendors aren't too interested in working with me.

I loved your comment once about the place on Merivale Road-way too expensive and not too user friendly. She doesn't take to me because I have been wearing wigs for 40 years so I know a lot more than she would like me to.She charged me $175 to cut a wig because I had not bought it from her.
Of course a lot of the time I wear synthetic wigs-for convenience. I buy from Kathy Tonkin who helps moderate the wigsupport forum and also sells wigs.
So that's it for me-maybe I will do some more wig shopping while I am in the US -not sure.I love the pics of your daughter-my younger brother adopted a girl from China- she is amazing-now a real lovely, opinionated, talented and fun 14 year old.She has brought so much joy into his life.
BTW- I am hopeless with this type of forum-I find it confusing so hope I am doing the right thing for a response.

HI, Thank you for your input on the white hair thing. I now just keep it shaved , it is less to deal with. I have 2 long real hair wigs as in my pic, then 2 med ones same basic colors. then 2 really short ones dark brown, (I only wear these 2 at home) not in front of strangers, Just my immediate family, it is hard for people to know I am bald, they forget so that is cool.

Well have a great day and oh ya , your daughter is beautiful.

talk soon Denise,

Thanks! That's not to say that I have a good day EVERY day...but, about alopecia, I've gotten to a good place! :)

Hi Lori,
Just checking in since we live so close to each other. I've been reading a few of your posts and I've read about the eyebrows. I can relate. I've lost almost all of one eyebrow and the eyelashes on one eye. (On opposite eyes if you can believe that!) I shave my head now and I'm waiting (6 months!) on my Freedom Wig. I kinda wish it would all just go if it's going. I actually don't have hair on my arms and legs now. What do you call this? AA? AT? AU? I have a strong feeling that all of the eyebrows and eyelashes will go soon. There's been no regrowth now in 8 months. Hope things are okay with you. Shannon

I actually just finally got my passport so I'm ready to go! I'm very worried because I'm afraid to spend a lot of $$ and not like it! Do they guarantee at all? Why didn't you go back with it and tell them you didn't like it? That's hard to do though, the human hair wig I bought online and brought to a wig stylist...she ruined and I can't even wear it...it's that bad...and I never went back. It's hard because she was super excited about the job she did and it was horrible!

Oh and by the way, I read your post about eyebrows and I'm in the same boat. My right eyebrow is almost gone and the left one is starting to thin. I bought the temp tattoo ones and they look horrible, especially if you still have some hairs left there. They're cheap enough, but didn't work out for me anyway.
So, I'm penciling. And that isn't working that great either since one swipe and poof, gone. I realize now, we unconsciously wipe our faces!

I think anything you glue on too would still need you to have none left. Ugh IDK.

Hi Lori. I was reading one of your blogs about your hair piece and wanted to know if you ever did end up at Continental. After buying a human hair wig from online and then having a hairdresser cut/color it, I've decided no more of this $%#@ stuff! After $650, I look like Garth from Wayne's world. I won't even wear it. So, I wanted to know what you thought of Continental because I'm in the process of getting my passport so I can get up there!

Hi Lori :) Thanks for the nice comments on my photos. I am just starting to get used to wearing the freedom wig and I almost feel like myself from "those days" again! I was afraid that wearing a wig would take me farther away from being comfortable with myself as I am, but I think it is actually doing the opposite! Your little girl is the sweetest by the way! :)

Hi Lori!

How are you? and your little one? Last week we celebrate the 8th and 6the anniversary of my dauthers: both were born on the same day.....I had nothing to do with it ;-) I've bought a wig recently because I re-started to work again... did not miss the fake haire but on the other hand, I felt it is easier than trying to match a scarf and an outfit!

Hey there. Sorry to hear about the eyebrows. I hear there are many really cool options for eyebrows that look real. I hope you can find something like that. I may end up in a wig soon. It's getting thinner and thinner, but I will keep plugging away with the olux foam, injections and the Rogaine. I haven't had a problem with it growing back in, just wants to fall out. Hope all is well with you, take care.

Hey there - so are you wearing wigs now? How much hair do you have? I am so affraid to resort to a wig. I am still able to hide the spots, however, so much has fallen out lately. I hate this. How are your lashes and brows?

Lori, Thanks for the reply! I know how you feel! That's the same place that I'm at too. I am the same way, I wont shave it and don't even want to think about it. I don't know what's wrong with me. I guess I can't let go!! I worry all the time if there is a spot showing or the wind blowing on it or whatever! It is just too hard and takes too much energy. I'm so tired of it all! Well, I wish you well Lori. I heard that the Freedom Wigs are awesome but you have to shave your head. There is another one called Joseph Paris Wigs and Cindy on AW wears them. She loves hers and I think it looked great. Thinking of looking into one but I'm just going day by day now, hoping that the shedding will stop. PLEASE!! My doctor's nurse says that it is normal for people to loose 400 hairs in a day, I don't believe that. I think it's more like 50-100. That's what every website in the world says about that too, so I don't know why they told me that. Keep the faith Lori and really hope you get to a place where you are ok with it all too. I know this isn't the end of my life, but just something we need to adjust to. I'm still a wife, mom, sister, the same person that I have always been. I know that never changes. So are you! I'm sure your daughter loves you to death! She looks so sweet! I have two girls myself and I couldn't image life without them. They are WAY more important! Please keep in touch and let me know how you are doing, take care! Melissa

Hey Lori Hope that you are feeling better too, I'm sorry, it was like I had to vent too because I was feeling the same way. Are you going to get treatments still? I'm currently getting treatments but it doesn't seem to be working this time. Very frustrating. Take care and keep me posted on you progress. I hope it stops for you too! Melissa

I'm sooooo excited - I have the lock of hair to be used, and my Freedom cap.......now I just have to wait, and that is the hardest part! I'm getting to really LOATHE my roadkills! LOL

If your hair is falling out a lot, maybe the time is right to go for it!!! I'll let you know when mine arrives, and we'll have to get together so you can see it/try it on etc. That might just make you decide!

Smiles, Julia

Hi Lori,
Your loss sounds a lot like mine - I have the ophiasis pattern, but patches on the rest of my head come and go. Because my hair is shoulder length, I can (sort of) hide the bottom and around the ears. I use headbands sometimes, but it concerns me that the ophasis pattern has not grown back in a year. I figure it's pretty long-term and the outlook isn't great. I go for the injections too, but I don't seem to get much regrowth. After the first 7 months, I got quite ill with a virus and shockingly EVERYTHING grew back! Only to fall out again 4 months later - talk about disappointing. I think that made me realize this was not just a one time event (although I have heard of people who suffered a one time event) and that this was going to be chronic! My time to shave is going to depend on how the winter goes. We're located near Arnprior. Check out our website www.ballintotasalpacas.com - there's a map on our contact page. The family picture was taken in October - my hair was in the process of falling out for the second time. It's really coincidental that I found you and Julia online - I've never joined anything before and I quite stumbled on this by accident. Glad I did! S.
