Today is my first day to try Xeljanz XR. I will try and blog about my experiences to hopefully help others. About me, I'm mid 30's married with a young child. Lost my hair all over (Universalis) twice in my lifetime, this being the second. The first was when I was 11 years old. Miraculously it all grew back after 3 years of no hair except my arms and most of my legs which I did not complain about one bit. I was pretty much alopecia free for over 20 years and NEVER thought it would happen again. Well, it did about a year and a half ago and it hit me like a mack truck. I put on so much weight from depression and not knowing how to work out without hair. But I'm back, I decided I wasn't going to let it rule my life and I'm taking it back. I've been working out and losing the weight I had so quickly put on. I have researched Xeljanz and finally got a hold of some today. I am worried about the side effects and worried that it may not work but I am going to see it through for at least 6 months and/or until my supply comes to an end. I will not give up on having my hair back. I love my hair and miss it so much. I must say I enjoyed my hair throughly while I did have it as I truly appreciated having it. So, I just took my first dose. So far, so good...wish me luck:)

Day 2 and no side effects. I did feel a slightly less amount of pain in my neck and shoulders. Not sure if it's a placebo effect or if it really did help.

It's now been exactly one week and no side effects...well maybe a slight headache. No other issues. My arthritic pain in my hand neck and shoulders is so much better. Not gone but I've not taking anything this week to reduce the pain....just a little heat. I got this medicine because of my RA and hoping that it helps turn the alopecia autoimmune response off. I have not seen any growth at all but it's only one week. I'm trying to be patient and not get my hopes up too much but really crossing my fingers. I'll keep you posted.

Oh thank you for that!! I am at a week and a half and nothing. I was just thinking that maybe I should try some of the anthralin/dritho-cream to stir up some hair follicles:) I will say the pain I was having due to RA has amazingly subsided. Not completely but it's so much better I am not constantly riding around in my car with the seat heater on nor popping tylenol like I was to just get by.

TexasGirl, thank you for sharing. I have AU, 7years now. I was diagnosed it'd RA last spring. My Rheumatologist is repeating the blood work & if numbers are the same, he's starting me on medication. I'm going to ask him about the Xeljanz. It seems to as the old icky saying goes, kills two birds with one stone. The pain this winter with the cold & rain has been awful, I totally understand the Tylenol. Thank you, thank you, thank you again for posting this. I wish you well & success.

I wish you success as well. I just woke up this morning thinking about how much better I feel. Almost no pain! It's been 2 weeks and no side effects. I am getting my blood work done on Monday to make sure no issues there and hoping it is the case b/c I really like this medication. However, I have NO hair regrowth yet. But I hear its a little too early to tell. I'll keep everyone posted as I go along and please do the same:)
