"To the Dalai Lama, suffering and adversity are the necessary conditions for developing patience and tolerance. These qualities are vital if we want to reduce negative emotions like hatred or anger. When things go well, we have less need to be patient and forgiving. It's only when we come across problems, when we suffer, that we truly learn these virtues. Once we internalize them, compassion flows naturally."

I read these words while reading The Wisdom of Forgiveness. One of the many books of his Holiness the Dalai Lama. It had an imediate reaction within myself. After watching another lecture about finding opportunities in adversities, here again adversities are mentioned. Not in a negative way, in which we are first learned to think of it, but as a means to find and create positivity out of them.
I know for myself, since embracing and learning to love myself as an alopecian; I do find I am more tolerant, my anger tends not to come as frequently. And my empathy for others suffering comes more naturally. That is not to say that I still don't experience those moments of complete and utter frustrations when some idiot makes a rude remark about my being bald or cant hold their stares in check. But lets face it..... we all cant be like Dalai Lama. He has mediated on these thoughts for decades and has to have the most compassionate soul in this entire planet.
But regardless of this; read these words over again, mediate on them. Regardless of the stage you find yourself in, I do believe you can be inspired and find insight into not only the words but in yourself.
