When alopecians being portrayed in a bad image collaterally

I'm quoting a brief news article below from a Malaysian online news portal which read (recently):

["Youths sporting the close crop hairstyle akin to skinheads are making a comeback in various shopping malls, reported Kosmo! Ahad.

These groups had been seen loitering in malls such as The Pavilion in Kuala Lumpur during weekends or at underground music performances.

A former member, Mohd Haris, said there was one group in each state.

“They would meet up at nightclubs, discos and other places selling liquor,” said the 28-year-old, who became part of the group when he was studying in a private college in Masai, Johor.

He said the group would engage in sex orgies and in extreme cases, even kill those opposing them.

Pertubuhan Kebajikan Sahabat Insan Malaysia (Sidim) chairman Mohamed Hanafiah Abdul Malek said these groups were popular among secondary and college students."]

There have been several incidences in the past that I was being called as a "skinhead" in a "bad manner", by some youths which could have likened me as part of the skinhead gang. My baldness is even questioned by some university professors if I am involved in the skinhead gang. I treated all these situation as isolated incidences until the news report about two days ago in 13th Sept. 2009. Is there anyway for alopecians not being portrayed negatively as an inoccent "collateral damage"?-- ALOPECIA AWARENESS

This is another wake up call for Malaysians in particular and all Alopecians in general to promote alopecia awareness! I can't help it but I'll be more conscious about my alopecia more now especially walking in the public...:(

It is hard enough dealing with Alopecia on a daily basis but it is a down right shame that it could be associated with being a skinhead. That's just down right prejudice!!!!! I've learned over the past couple of years that people in general don't know what Alopecia is. We do need to promote Alopecia awareness in society. Hang in there Joshua.
