Update on my treatment and medication

Thought I would give everyone an update on my status incase it may help in some way. :)

It has been about 4months since I was diagnosed with LPP (scarring alopecia) and started my course of medication and treatments. They say that we have caught it early on, although I am at the point where I need to do strategic combovers and hours of prep to get my hair in an acceptable style. (I am pretty thin on the top of my head and can't do a side or middle part at all any more.)

I am on Plaquenil twice a day, steroid injections every 6 weeks, topical treatment 3 times a week, special shampoo 3 times a week, Aveda natural hair products for thinning hair (conditioner and topical), rogaine foam 3 times a week, fish oil, vitamin d, woman's multi and turmeric supplements.

WOW.

I thought that I had a time consuming regime before! Ugh...it's all soooo tiring!

Anyways, every time i see my hairdresser, she claims that I have lots of new growth. I can see it myself. I think that the Aveda products are really helping the sides and back. I am too afraid to use it on the top incase I enflame my scalp and the condition. The dermatologist also says that I have lots of regrowth. I am not sure if it is the antinflametory focus or the areas that are not too scarred are reacting well to the treatments. I don't see the scarred part areas growing back at all though. Too late for those areas.

I think I can live with it the way it is and pray that we have stopped it in its tracks. I dream that one day I can relax a bit and not have to worry all the time. Either a bald me or the me I am now.

So, my story could always be much worse and I feel that I am taking in stride and well so far. My approach is to be grateful for my supporters and as happy and as positive as I can be day to day.

I'm glad you are having some regrowth Amanda, and you seem to be coping really well.

Thanks Pat. I had a bad day yesterday. Sometimes my hair looks "normal" to me and sometimes it looks horrible! So frustrating! Regrowth for me will never be where the scarred loss is. That makes me sad. Will have to wait and see what happens. Thanks again!
