Well, it's been almost 2 months now since my mom had her stoke, and all I can say is GOD IS GOOD! She came home on 4/29/09 with a walker and a leg brace, and while she has been cooperating with her physical therapy, she has also been chomping at the bit to jump back into her normal routine. She finally got tired of waiting for someone to take her everywhere she wanted to go on Wednesday, so to prove the point, she got a step ladder and her walker and politely climbed into her 15-passenger van and started driving around!

So she's graduated from the walker to a four-legged cane (on Thursday), and she will be using that until the therapists and the doctors feel she can use a regular cane (which, stubborn as my mom is, and I get it honestly from her!) shouldn't be too long. Her brain is as sharp as ever, even if her patience has flown out the window -- and we know she is recovering more and more by the new levels of insanity to which she is driving us!

I just wanted to take the time to thank each and every one of you here in my AW family for keeping us lifted in prayer and in your thoughts -- we would never have made it through this stressful and trying time without you. God bless you all, and thanks again!

My Mom 80 years old....which you can see on my profile picz, had two milder strokes 3 years ago now.
She was a heavy smoker and the doctors said, the strokes were caused by that!
Either way, years of telling her not to, didn't help...she also was told to stop due to her heart Condition.
Did she stop...No!
The sadest thing is, right after, we noticed that her memory was failing.
She became less capable of careing for herself. So mid last year of 2008, she had to go into an nursing home, as she was required by doctors to have 24 hour care.
She's the life of the party at the home...yet, she is deeply sad and full of grief.
She carries a doll she bought for my kids when they were babies....thinking that it's her baby.
"She says..it's a little hard to take care of the baby and wonders why it doesn't talk"
To see a woman who was the leader and a wonderful mom, to go through this, is heart breaking.
She doesn't even know herself....that's the worst thing of all.
She doesn't know her own kids and grandkids....the connection to her.
She thinks her son...is her boyfriend...which is painful for my brother, to lose her in this fashion.
So...hold on to those important moments and never lose sight of the things that count.
