My daughter got AU at age 4 and lost all hair until we started her on probiotice at age 5. Then it almost all came back, and has been back and forth since. She probably has 30% now.

It seems to be going in the wrong direction right now. So we're adjusting her brand/dose. Has anyone else had luck with probiotics?

yes i have,i started taking bifido bacterium infantis and i got regrowth....around 50%. i read a book that explains if you have a leaky gut then food particles leak into the blood stream and the immune system goes on high alert to destroy the invaders in the blood and then gets so exhausted and confused from constant invaders that it then attacks ourselfs(in our case hair) so the probiotics serve by lining our gut to stop this problem......hope she gets all her hair back soon xx

Wow, I'm looking for another brand to use. Was using Intestiflora and recently started using a brand by Nature's Bounty that was a much larger dose and consisted of 10 different strains. Can you tell me what brand and product you use? Also, how much did you take? I'm thinking I'll give her different brands at different times of the day for kind of a shotgun effect.

By the way, I was told to try it by a nutritionist who told me that basically for lack of any real knowledge of what to do, that probiotics help the gut where most of the immune system is located. That was his only real insight and it seemed to work. Since then, I've visited several other nutritionists and followed their recommendations but nothing else seemed to work though the only thing we ever really used long enough to know for sure was iodine supplements. I also tried that laserbrush thing but it didn't seem to work. It might have done something but it requires 3x/week treatments for 15 minutes and it's hard to be consistent enough to make a more or less scientific judgment.

Excellent information, thank you. Leaky gut syndrome is something else I can research. I'll let you know how my current experiments go.
