Hi all!,

It's been awhile since I've been on AW! I just wanted to pop in and let y'all know that I finally got my eyebrows permanently tattooed on this weekend! I lost my eyebrows and eyelashes in the Fall of 2009, and since then I've been drawing my eyebrows in using a combination of products. I actually never really minded drawing them in; after a few months, I got the hang of it and could draw them both on in under a minute! But I live in Washington, DC, and the summers here are so darn humid that my eyebrows inevitably wind up melting off of my face in this heat :(

A co-worker recommended a permanent makeup clinic in the DC area, and I went in for a consultation 2 weeks ago and then finally for the actual tattooing this weekend. The procedure was under 1 hour and involved minimal amounts of pain. Most importantly, my new eyebrows look fantastic! The swelling/redness went down after about an hour, and I have been completely pain-free since! It is so strange (and awesome) to wake up in the morning with eyebrows! I'm going back in 6 weeks for a check-up/follow-up, and I think that I'm also going to get my eyeliner done as well! If anyone in the DC/VA/MD area wants info on my makeup artist and her clinic, please let me know! I would be happy to recommend her to you :)

Best,
Natalie

Hi Natalie,
I'm new to this site and was just coming to check out opinions on permanent make up. I am in the DC Area and would LOVE to hear which clinic you used! I'm looking for eyeliner and potentially eyebrows in the future. Any advice/recommendations are appreciated!

I'm headed tomorrow to get my eyeliner done, and my eyebrows in 2 weeks! Quick question -- are you supposed to tip on these procedures??

Good luck, Katie! I did not tip, but maybe I should have...I don't know. Sorry!

Hi Natalie, I too live in DC and am looking for a good recommendation for a permanent make-up place here in the city. Came across your post while doing a google search! Can you pass along the place you went to? I have been penciling my eyebrows for so long and I just cannot stand it any longer, but I am so nervous to get something permanent without any other referrals! Thanks so much for your help!

Maria -- I went to the place Natalie recommended and am still (almost a year later) LOVING the results of both my eyebrows and eyeliner. Shirley at Permanent Makeup Clinic went above and beyond.

Thank you Katie for responding! I did see and read very positive feedback about Shirley at the PMC..but it's difficult to trust things you read on line. I really appreciate your feedback!

Natalie and Maria,
Wondering if either of you have a dermatologist in the DC area that you would recommend? I've found 3 new bald spots in the past month and while my dermatologist is okay, he does not have a huge amount of experience with alopecia and I'd like to find someone who does for long term care. My eyebrows and eyelashes have been gone 2 years and I LOVE my permanent make up in both places, but am willing to fight a bit more for keeping the hair on my head.
Thanks in advance!
Katie

Hi Katie,

It has been many years since I've been to a doctor for alopecia. When I did go, I saw a woman at Georgetown University Hospital Department of Dermatology, (they are a teaching hospital, so they are usually up to date with the latest in medicine). Her name was Dr. Kupeiac, but she left a long time ago. However, I think they are worth looking into.
