I haven't been on here in so long, but since I have, I've come a long way with the acceptance of my alopecia. I'm in a much better place, even though it still sucks at times...

I got married last September :) and had a beautiful custom made wig for my wedding. I loved it! I wanted long hair and the guy I go to charged me approx $1250! I know , that's alot of money :( but it was a full cap (and I don't have to wear any tape, which I love, because I HATE using the tape!) I previously purchased a partial cap prior for approx $800. I'm now trying to order a new wig and the price has gone up to $1400! :( My guy said it should go down next year after he gets his factory direct price, so I'm not sure if I want to purchase another one from him until then.

I know I'm going to a full service salon and this guy is worth it, but in the long run I can't afford that for a condition that appears to be permanent for me, or atleast won't be going away anytime soon (I guess I'm still hopeful that my bold head will grow some hair again eventually...)!

I guess I just know I can probably save alot of money elsewhere. There seems to be so many other cheaper options out there that I need to familiarize myself with. I received other suggestions but I'm a little scared about ordering online and doing the measurements myself. My guy does all of this for me. I also don't want to order something which will require me to use tape (I really hate using the tape)! I don't have the average size head either. I have pretty big head. Plus, I'm still learning about all of this wig stuff.

Does anyone have any recommendations on where to go? I want a full custom fit lace cap with real hair which doesn't require the use of tape? Any awesome people/sites that you absolutely love? Anything local for me to check out? I live in Baltimore, Maryland.

Thanks SO much for your help!!

Nikki :)

In my experience getting a good wig that works for you is a hit and miss affair! I use a chinese manufacturer and send him processed hair i bought in Bangkok as I didn't know what quality hair the factory uses. So all up it costs under $500. But I recommended the same guy to another woman here and she couldn't wear hers at all, the fit wasn't good and neither was the hair so I felt so bad about that. I send my own measurements and the base is thinskin which doesn't require tape or glue. I also have a freedom wig which I dont wear these days but still looks good and I've had it for years. It was expensive though the hair is beautiful...having said that I know another woman who ordered a freedom wig and hates it. So it boils down to trial and error...some swear by synthetics because they like a more stylised wig and they come prestyled. If you are happy with the wig you currently have and its a great fit etc, the price is not overly exorbitant and it may be you can make the wig last a year or two. Mine last well over a year.

i know grippers havent been around for 4 yrs but FOLLEA has and it is just a cap construction...i wear mine only to work for 5 hrs a day or sso...im very easy on my pieces so maybe im not one to answer this queation..i did glue/tape for 1.5yrs and my poor head was a mess and the hair would fall out in 5 weeks and i paid what a gripper cost for one year so if i get 2 yrs out it im ahead of the game!...alopecia stinks and we need to just hope everyone finds an option that makes them happy and works for them...try NAAF.com thay have an ascot fund program that will give you 500 towards a piece that is 1500 or less.....jeannine
