Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone has been diagnosed with estrogen problems along with alopecia areata? Went to the clinic last week to have my thyroid checked along with other blood tests. Got the results today..all blood work good but found out I have NO estrogen my level was zero. Just wondering if that could be the cause of my hair falling out?

Hormonal blood tests are a gauge of where you are when they drew the blood. Our bodies run on cycles. Estrogen along with other chemicals in the body have to be watched over time and gauged by what else is going on in your body. Some times your metabolism is incorrectly handling your hormones...your hormones are unstable. My biggest suggestion to you, especially if you also have thyroid problems, is to do some research into anti-inflammatory foods. All of the illnesses in our bodies are driven by some type of inflammatory process going on. A lot of the foods we eat feed that. Sugar is one of the biggest offenders and the so called 'artificial sweeteners' are right up there. I never say, 'diet'. It's about lifestyle.
I know this is more info than you asked for, but getting people to live truly healthier lifestyles is a mission of mine. Changing what you eat to get your body back in balance is the best place to start. I've had lupus for over 25 years...on no meds. I've had hypothyroidism for about that long...on no meds. Have had procedures for 'hormonal imbalances'...again, no long need any meds. Lost almost all my hair 2 year ago...still working on a solution for that one. Check out something called i3c indole 3-carbinol. Also check out these two sites: http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/ART02012/anti-inflammatory-diet and http://www.perriconemd.com/category/perricone+lifestyle/anti-inflammatory+diet.do. Don't be put off by the work 'diet' because it isn't a 'diet' in the normal sense of the word.
