Need Help With Wig Alternatives, Please :)

So I was diagnosed with Alopecia Aerata this month. My hair is falling out pretty fast. Every time I shower, I get 1/2 a weeks hair in the drain and on the comb. It's falling out in plugs and clumps. I'm a nurse and I wear my hair in a short pony all the time. I'm having a hard time hiding the bald spots. I'm low maintenance and I've never "dressed" my head before, but now I need some quick solutions! Can you please lead the way....thank you!
p.s. I love looking at all your pictures! It really has settled my mind so much to just look at you all. You're all so beautiful!

when my hair first started falling out, i bought clip in hair extensions to cover the patches. that worked for 8 months for me. also, another alternative is scarves and hats.

When I first lost my hair, I started wearing scarves, a particular type of scarf. I made a video and put it on YouTube to show how I tie them. Just go to YouTube and search for "Alternatives to Wearing a Wig".

Now, a year later, I only wear the scarf when it's cool. I go bald all the time. Mary

Bandanas work really well...you can find all colors and fun ones online. You can also look up the web site www.thebeaubeau.com they have really fun head covers. If your looking for a good inexpensive wig, look at monofilament wigs even the synthetic ones are great. I know it sucks but...have fun with it by mixing up different wigs or wearing a bandana (what ever you feel like on any given day). My word for bandana is usually dambana...it makes me happy to say that!
Good Luck!

Mary -- THANK YOU for posting that video. I wear scarves at home and on weekends and am so tired of the "bun" wrap look that I do. You are so beautiful. I hope to have your confidence some day. Thank you again. You really made my day.

Depending on where the spot(s) is, I've had good success using 2 hair products that camouflage the spot well--"Thicken" from hairstylist DiCesare at HSN.com, and "Toppik" through QVC.com or several other websites. I'm blonde, so the bald patches and thin spots are a little easier to cover--I'm not sure how they will work with darker hair, but it might be worth a try.

http://www.coveryourhair.com/ I found this website pretty awesome too.

Cass: What are these products? Is it glue or sticky stuff to keep you hair stuck to the bald spots or is it dye.

Thanks for all the posts!
