Hi. My name is Hannah. I've had alopecia since I was 6 years old, so 11 years now. That first year, I lost EVERYTHING... No eyebrows, no eyelashes, no hair. We decided to do wigs for a while. But I HATED the wig I had. It was itchy, hot, would move around, and looked completely fake. Well on it's own, my hair started to come back in. A completely different color than before. I had blond hair when it fell out and now I had Brown hair coming back in. Around age 12, I had super thin hair because it still came and went in bursts. My eyebrows started to come back in and actually stayed until I was about 14 years old. Then they fell out again. My eyelashes have yet to come back in also. Around age 14, I went to a dermatologist and we did injections. The PA was amazing in how she did it. It barely hurt, I didn't feel any after affects except for the dents in My head that had my mom worried. It was great. The injections really worked for me and every time I had a spot, I would go back a month later and get more injections. Well the PA moved away around when I turned 16. I didn't particularly care for the new PA or the doctor (not that they are not great. Cause they are) because of how they did the injections. I don't know, but it felt and looked like when they gave the injections, my hair wouldn't grow back so great. My hair started to fall out. It is my senior year of high school. And the summer before, my derm wanted to try prednisone. It didn't work for me. I took 2 tablets once a month for three months. Nope no results. Ugh. So now I had started plaquenil in November 2015 and the derm gave me a prescription for 3 months before I'm to see him again. Which I am going to see him on Monday and get the verdict. What I can tell you is, my hair has always been a slow regrower and falls out super fast. That being said, I find that taking plaquenil within the first week, I noticed that My hair had started to fall out less, there were less strands in my comb. I don't know yet if my hair is regrowing because they say that it starts around the 3-4 month period to start up the process. I can't find much on results because people usually give up around this time. But I find it a good sign that it has slowed down my hair loss.
At the beginning of my senior year, I got so fed up with it that I shaved half my scalp of hair. Which wasn't much. My other half has also over time fallen out so I wear clip-ins and have gotten good with styling my hair. Oh and... The little hairs that have grown back are blond hairs. So half my hair is Brown and the part that is trying to grow is blond. I don't know what that is about. Thanks and please post feed back!

I am 60 and had alopecia since 30. Did cortisone shots and grew back hair in 1997. Lost to a home color treatment in 1999. I wore wigs for a school job because it was required but I prefer to do without and wear scarves. Some people hate scarves. I don't care. I really like to wear my head bald but sometimes that scares my grandsons :)

WILDSTAR; Thank you! I actually had a derm. Appt with my doctor today and have another in 4 months. But I'll look into it and see if I can go back in for another soon.

Sharalexis; Having alopecia is hard no matter what age and you eventually come to accept that it is just who you are and is a difficulty in life that you have to work through. :)

Nat; I think I've head of it. I know scarring alopecia really hurts your hair follicles and it is hard/ near impossible to regrow hair.
