Hi, all! This is my very first attempt at a blog. Let's see if you really can teach an old dog new tricks  ;-)

I just have to share my granddaughter's story:

She just turned 6. She developed her first patch back in January. One become 2, and so on. It was fairly easy to cover...  Then, about 3 weeks before she started 1st grade in August, the hair loss accelerated dramatically.  Within two months, she had lost almost all of it. Just this week, she decided to shave off what little was left. When it was done, she flexed her muscles and declared, "I am a strong kid! I am ME - and I like my bald head!" I am in awe of this mighty, little girl!

I am not fool enough to think she will never have any rough times ahead, but I am sure that she can & will get through anything that is thrown at her. Her true colors have already come shining through! The strength she has shown is awesome, in the true sense of the word.

There is a wig on-order from Hair Club (what a wonderful organization!), and she is excited about getting it - but, she may or may not wear it all the time. She feels no need to cover up. "I just want to be me!"

This is one special, extraordinary kid!  And, I am so proud to be her grandmother!!

BTW, that is just a 'press-on with water' tattoo on the back of her head... unbelievably, some people actually asked me if it was real/permanent!

I love the tattoo. My little girl is five and lost her hair by this past August. Some days are better than others. Does your granddaughter wear/like the hair club wig? We got one through wigs for kids as hair club said they tape on and you need to be six.

Hi, there! We got the hair piece from hairclub. Yes, they use a semi-permanent tape (4-6 weeks), which does not work for our purposes. It also needs to be removed with a solvent. Dont like that idea on a child. I am ordering another type of tape. She will not wear it, which is fine! She is perfectly comfortable with herself!

The wig also neefs to be cut properly. They did a terrible job! Also, it needs to be thinned out. I just found someone who cuts wigs. I'll go ahead and have that done, just in case my girl changes her mind one day...

The wig from wigs for kids does not use tape and seems to stay on well. She never keeps it on all day but does like having the option. She wanted the longest length possible and I just went with it. It could use a trim and some thinning. I'm glad to hear your girl is so confident. My daughter gets very shy and doesn't like all the attention she gets. We have been approached by quite a few people who ask what treatment she is going through. Then we end up in an awkward alopecia discussion. How do you handle being out and about? I keep thinking it will get easier.
