Mistaken for shaving for Cure for Cancer

Quite a few people have now stopped me in the street, asked me in shops or public places if I have shaved my head through choice for Cure for Cancer.. I hadn't even heard of it so it was a surprise at first but now I am ready for it! It still surprises me that people would think that a girl has gone bald by choice! Maybe some others have had the same experience?! I don't mind people asking at all really and so far it has been followed up with a positive comment like, "Oh well you suit it.." but I probably am surprised at how forward people are too!!

This is what the event is http://www.worldsgreatestshave.com/
Great cause, maybe I can justify raising a small amount of money when I shave the tiny bits i have?! For me there is still an uncomfortable / difficult link that people can make between hair loss and illness. I guess that's where a raised awareness of Alopecia would help.

I actually get that ALL the time! Either people straight up ask me, or when I'm telling them about alopecia they're like "Ohhh I thought you just shaved it for cancer!" At least it makes you look like a really kind-hearted person haha! Not to say that you aren't, of course!

First off, strangers asking any questions is quite presumptuous!!! Its nobody's business. I love the fact that you are comfortable in your 'baldness'. It doesn't take courage to shave your head for cancer...it DOES take courage to be secure in your 'baldness'. So you go girl!!

ohh, I can imagine how awkward it was. I wouldn't know how to react if it was me. :-)

My awesome little brother-in-law is 22yrs old and growing out his hair to donate :) I'm going to forward him the link, he's up to 8"...wish I had that kinda hair!!

The irony is I did a cuts for cancer thing back in 2001, roughly four years before my hair fell out. I often wonder if my hair did end up in a wig and if someone out there has more of my hair than I do!

I would think it is because you look healthy.

Also, I do know that as soon as you make the choice to live your life bald you have to expect the questions. They are going to come.

That is true - but there is a difference in look between a woman who has shaved her head (stubble althought very fine) to a woman who has no hair (skin colour and smooth) - but I guess it is only us people that have Alopecia realise / think about that difference. For example of you google 'bald women' you get a lot of images of women with close shaves on their head - that looks quite different to an Alopecia head. But yes Cheryl you are right, the questions come :-) and I guess we get better at dealing with them!
