In search of the underlying cause

My alopecia started about 13 yrs ago with a dime size spot on the back of my scalp. I had a few more patches over the next 10 years and steroid injections would get the hair to regrow.  About 2 yrs ago I lost 60% of my scalp hair. I went on an anti-inflammatory diet and treated the scalp with betamethasone and rogaine and my hair came back. After 6 months it started shedding again and now I am totally bald. To make matters worse, I have lost all facial hair including eyebrows and eyelashes.  The onset of my alopecia began around the time I moved from a home which was on municipal water to a home which is on well water...My thinking is this may be the underlying cause of my immune system attacking my hair follicles. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what to test for in my water supply?

Thank you for your support,

Bob

Hey Bob, I don't have an answer to your question, but we do share similar stories as far as the age when it all began and the years of struggle. It took almost 25 years for all my hair to completely fall out. I too have tried to figure out a trigger. For me, it was always stress in my personal life. No life style changes were as consistent as the stress.

I went to AU the summer we lived on a rental property with irrigation ditch running through, and with pesticides floated down once a month for the farms. Also, more farm animals were on our and neighboring properties. I firmly believe the animals and water caused my final major hair loss. That was 1994, I have AT now. I never did get my head hair back.
