"I'm a survivor" too!

I had a new "cancer" comment today while at a drug store. The checker was an older guy, and as he finished ringing up my stuff he smiled warmly and said "I'm a survivor". As usual, I had forgotten about being bald, and was taken aback. So, I responded with my usual "Oh, I don't have cancer...I have Alopecia Areata....But, I'm glad you're a survivor."'

As I left the store, it hit me - I'M A SURVIVOR, TOO! The next time someone tells me they're a survivor, I'm going to say:

"I'm a survivor, too. I've survived 3 years (or whatever it is) of living openly as a bald woman since I lost all my hair."

Maybe we should get some T-shirts made that say "Alopecia Survivor"! Better yet, let's pitch CBS to do a whole season of "Survivor" with all Alopecians, and call it that!

If I were younger, I would do it! But, too many easily-injured body parts these days make it impossible. What I'd REALLY love to do is The Amazing Race! I think that the first Alopecian woman who applies will get on that - they go for DIFFERENCE, and diseases! But, at almost 58 I'm past my sell-by date for such things. ( :-(

I could make that the slogan on the back of this year's International Alopecia Day T-shirts (which I'm working on). T-shirts with two sided text cost a little more, but I could make two versions, one with the slogan on the back, one without.
