I want a new name for my variety of AA

I had AA for 7 years, then I progressed to AT - no scalp hair, but everything else still there. Then, it quickly went to AU. In the past few months, I've started growing hair again, but ONLY on my face. I have eyebrow patches, lashes in the center of my upper eyelids, nose hair, and peach fuzz in places on my cheeks and chin. But, there's not a single, tiny hair anywhere else on my scalp or body.

So, I think that there needs to be a name for when you have hair only from your eyebrows to your chin. Since the other "types" have Latin names, I looked online and found that "face" in Latin is one of three terms:

"facies" - face, visage, countenance /aspect, appearance

"oris" - face, countenance, sight / expression

"visio" - likeness, face, visage

Of the three, I like "oris" - it sounds the most like the existing terms, ending in "-is".

So, I'm officially proposing "alopecia areata oris" for this variety of AA.

Does anyone else have the same type?

What do you think about the name - anyone have a different suggestion?

I like alopecia areata visio, but that's just my opinion. :)

After I posted this, I told my husband about my idea. He pointed out that it's not technically correct to name this variety of AA "face", because that's where I HAVE hair. The other types are named based on where you DON'T have hair - i.e. "Totalis" for total scalp loss, "Universalis" for total body hair loss. Oh well, I think it fits. I liked "visio", too, Tara.

AA Visio sounds too much like a Microsoft program gone bad -- nix that one. Besides, Bill Gates might sue you for copyright infringement or something, LOL,
(it does sound interesting though.)

I think I would call it AA facies -- just Latin enough to keep all the MDs happy and easy enough to understand what part of the body it's affecting.

Just my two cents as I'm waiting on 7am to get here so I can go home from work!

Yes, Demm - I think AA Corpus is appropriate. The abbreviation is funny, though.

That's an interesting pattern, Susan! Yes, I think we are close to Universalis since that's the next step after Totalis. But, it just doesn't fit.
