Hello All,
I'm in a sticky situation, let me explain: I'm not completely bald, i have hair, it will grow and the tons of bald patches will start to disappear but they never fully go away, they're always visible (which gives me false hope-just my luck) so, my hair is really short right now, it's starting to fall out again, it's messy, it itches, and it makes me feel so disappointed when it falls out. However, i don't want to shave it off, because i feel like maybe, possibly there could be a chance that it will stop falling out and continue to grow, if i cut it off now even if it does start to grow back it will take longer to get length. Maybe it's just the fact that i long for hair so badly, that i don't want to shave it off, i really don't know. Another problem is that I wear a vacumm hairpiece, which means it won't stay secure unless i shave my hair off. The hairpiece is starting to lose hair as well, it's a little old, so i may even get a new wig, but still the wig works better with a completely shaved/bald head. UGHHH... i can't win w/ alopecia!
Opinions? I know this doesn't sound like a big problem, but it means a lot to me. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Hi Sarah That's the thing with vacumn wigs, you need a nice smooth head for them to fit properly. If you are not ready to shave your head maybe you can purchase a wig (not custom) from a wig store or on line. Also scarves and fun hats for winter and hopefully by summer you will have re-growth and your hair will stop falling out.

Hey Sarah, I would not shave it off. I feel the same way u do. If there is no hope, then for me there is no life. Hang in there girl. Im also new to this, Im just debating what to do next..... which is a wig now as I cant cover the patches in the back, but I still have hair in the front.... so Im not sure which wig to get now. Good like sweetie, and Im here if u need me

Hey Sarah! Umm.. well when you have alopecia your hair slowly takes time to fall out. Like all my hair fell out in a year and two months. ( That's a very very long time.) I started to have alopecia around the age of 3. So when I was about 4 and a half, it completely fell out. So it took a long time to come out. I look at pictures once in a while when I was about 4 and all I see if tons of little pieces of hair on my head and it just looks so werid to look at it. Sio yeah. Also if you want read my blg about my english paper! - Nicky :)

Sarah.... I know how you are feeling ( if you read my recent blog "Life is Funny") its been only 2 1/2 months since I shaved my head. And it was only after torturing myself with inspecting the bald areas constantly. Trying to hid myself under hats and scarfs and worse of it was throwing all the fallen hair into the garbage. Stop torturing yourself, it breaks my heart knowing that there is so many of us that go thru all these challenges that go along with alopecia. Im not saying that shaving is the answer for you but if there is even a small chance that if it will cause you to stop stressing about the bald areas or if and when your hair grows back then shaving is the answer. I have wigs, scarfs, hats but now its my choice what I decide to do with my head and it doesnt consist of hiding bald areas.

well, i was going through the same exact thing! i wanted to keep as much as possible because i felt like it would grow back eventually. but the day i finally decided to shave it off my best friend told me she would love me just as much if i shaved it off. plus i was miserable, every time i brushed my hair more, and more came out. i was practically torturing myself. so i shaved it, and it was shocking at first but it has made my life so much easier! yes, i do miss getting my hair done, but im so much happier now. it will take a leap of faith, but if you have good friends it will be easier. i hope that helped! :)

Thanks elysabeth! THAT IS EXACTLY, and i mean exactly how i feel lol! I decided to shave it off... it hurt my pride sooo much, but i think it was worth it. It was making me really depressed. I'm not going to say i'm all happy dandy now, but it feels much better. It's good to have friends to back you up! I'm glad things are good!
