Another update from me...

After a few weeks of feeling really low, I have been feeling a lot more positive recently. I don't really know what the turning point has been but I'm hoping that it lasts.

I went to see the private dermatologist again last week and she said that she was very encouraged by the amount of regrowth in my two biggest spots. She said that the best advice that she could give me would be to try to forget about the alopecia, but understood how difficult this can be. I have a good covering of fine white hair in these patches and I'm keeping everything crossed that some thicker dark hair will come through soon.

I haven't seen any new patches starting and, again, I'm keeping everything crossed, that none appear. Hair loss when I'm washing or combing my hair is at "normal" levels so I hope that this continues.

My best friend recommended that I go to see her hairdresser and she has been a godsend so far. She has cut my hair but left enough around the patches so that I can still cover the baldspots. She didn't charge for the appointment either which was so kind of her. She's also going to speak to a friend of hers, a tricologist who lectures in the local college, about what other treatment options there are. Again, I've been touched by the kindness of others.

I'm still using the "dermovate" cream in all of my patches, and my next dermatologist visit in 4 weeks time when I've got the follow up visit with the NHS derm.

It's good to finally post a fairly positive blog!

Robert - I'm thrilled that you're feeling a bit better now. I've got my ups and downs still, but seems that the ups have been more frequent, and the downs have not lasted as long. That's great news that you're getting a bit of regrowth in your main patches. I'm back to the derm on Weds. for another round of steroid injections. I think I'll discuss at length if I ought to keep those treatments up. Part of me wants to forget it and let it run it's course. I'm just not sure...

Anyway, all the best with high hopes the growth continues and lasts!

Cheers!

Robert,
I'm so happy for you! I've been following your story since you came online and you've handled this like a champ. Thanks for sharing! Sometimes we forget that recovery can and does occur in many cases.

Thanks Jeff, I'm always a bit wary of being too positive as AA is such an unpredictable condition. I've got a long way to go but at least there are some positive signs. I just keep hoping that there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks also to John, Aimee, and Susan for commenting too. I hope you're all having more good days than bad. I've been so up and down since discovering that I have AA but have been more up than down recently and for that I am very thankful. It won't beat me!
