Derm Update - There May Be Life on Mars

Friends,

I just got home (literally) from visit #3 to my dermatologist. Before I get into the results, I have to say that "wow", what a mind-numbing morning. I think I get WAY too worked up over things. I was really dreading the visit today for fear of going there, then having the derm tell me that there's not really much results. That compounded with the recent small spots I've seen come in would just be a kick to the nads. I was so worked up, my blood pressure reading in the office was really high (though perfectly normal this very morning)...but that's a different story, different blog.

Anyway, as I was waiting to expect the grim news, the first doc (in addition to my main derm) said that she can see hair coming in!!!! Not only that, but they were actually little black hairs, and not the typical white stuff that normally starts in the regrowth pattern. I was in disbelief and asked her if she was just trying to make me feel better. She assured me that she wouldn't do that, and if I didn't believe her, my main derm would be in shortly and can verify.

Sure enough, when my main derm came in, she was pleased to see the little black hairs coming in. She said that 4 weeks ago, she had to use a magnifying glass to see the little bit of growth. Now she can see it with her naked eyes. She says that they're "diffuse" hair growth for now since it doesn't all come in at once. But sure enough, there is life on mars there. Needless to say, I was thrilled.

This time around, they only injected the new spots, and a little around some of the bigger original spots. That's one syringe as compared to 5 they had to use last time. The derm said that now that we're seeing growth, there's really no need to keep injecting. We just need to give the hair time to grow.

I am not getting my hopes up too high, and would normally not mention any progress until it's nearly a done-deal (we Asians are notoriously superstitious like that!!!) :-) However, there is so often a shortage of good news (in terms of regrowth) being shared on this forum, I felt I just had to put something out there. Again, I am not counting my chickens just yet, but remain hopeful and in prayer that this continues.

I'm sure I'll still have some "down and out" posts, but for now, things are looking up. Thanks to all my friends here who have truely cared and inquired about my visit today.

AND PLEASE...if you too have had some successes, please post it so that others can glean hope and inspiration from your stories.

Cheers,

John

Great news John... and you're right let's get some successes on here. I've got regrowth in some spots too but I mainly just whine in my blog posts. I tried to take a picture of one to post but it didn't come out too well. I'll try again with a better camera sometime.

Take care - and continued regrowth!!!!

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the kindness and well wishes. Alas, some shedding still continues (don't want to make it sound like all peaches 'n cream), but at least there is some light in this darkness, ey? All the best you to. :-)

Awesome news John! I actually went to my Derm yesterday morning for my regualr injections. Since i have the one spot that was growing, she measures it and logs it in my file. She measured it, went to log it i my file, and she blurts out "Ah-Ha!" I asked what....give me the bad news....and she said, "It has halted. It's not growing anymore, the same size since your last visit." So, no bad news. Actually good news. I got a few injections around the edges of the spot and two injections on a tiny little spot that started but is also not growing. I too still have some shedding, but not nearly as much as before. Finally, some good news!

I can't even begin to say how awesome it is to have a place like this to vent and share!

John,
So good to see things looking up for you! The fact that you've got regrowth and especially black regrowth indicates that growth cycles are returning and your spots are on their way to recovery. This is truly wonderful! As you know I went through exactly what you're going through and am now well on the mend. With any luck you've turned a corner at this point and you certainly have all the reason to be hopeful!
Best Wishes!
