I was just thinking about this the other day! LOL - of course, it doesn't affect me anymore, I don't have much hair left. But I am curious and hope you get an answer.

I had AA until I was 13 and I was a fish. It never made anything better or worse so I think it's safe to assume that chlorine has no effect on alopecia. Of course it's still something which should be washed off afterwards because it is a chemical afterall.

A benefit of not having hair - no worries about the chlorine! I should add that to my blog...

I think you can feel safe swimming in chorinated pools. Most likely the water you drink has been treated with chlorine to purify it. AA is a "genetic auto immune disorder" and I have found that the best laymans explanation is it's like you are alergic to your own hair. The joy you and the kids get from that backyard pool will do more good than harm anyway. So enjoy it without worry Misty. I have one of those little backyard pools too and I think they are great fun! Enjoy!

My doctors never said anything bad about swimming. Just to protect my head from sun burn lol.
One did say it could help as a stress reliever. And that stress causes more hair loss then other things in my life. I stopped swimming for 10 years. I am so glad I started again. Not sure if it was the water but I did get hair growth soon after. Now you have me wondering. Because i got hair in spots i had not in 17 years.

I was wondering about the chlorine myself. My daughter is a fish in the summer months. She has a derm appt in the next few weeks which I will ask because her hair getting worse coincides with the time she started swimming in our pool. Thanks everyone.
