Cannot believe this is happening to me!

HI I am a 40 yr old mother of 3 young children and I am also my father who has leukemia's carer. I first saw a few bald spots last year and went to a dermatologist and they told me it was alopecia areata. I also have psoriasis which I have had since I was 8 so at the moment am having light treatment for that, but my alopecia was very steady until earlier this year when I caught hand, foot and mouth disease from my kids and I had blisters all over my hands and feet, it was a viral thing so I just had to keep it until it cleared up but the virus brought my psoriasis out with avengence and the my alopecia had gotten a lot worse since then.
I am trying hypnosis and am thinking of trying reiki, it annoys me that I think ther doctors just say its alopecia and don't try to find out much more or they try to help you with anything else. I wear a hat all the time now and waiting to hear about an appt to see about a wig but feel a bit unsure about that. I have done so much crying and feel like I can't cry anymore and I want to try and beat this thing and would love to hear any positive feedback from anyone out there. kathryn

Hi Kathryn :) I'm sorry to hear all the tough times you are going through. You will get through this and come out smiling, I promise. I have been dealing with alopecia for almost 9 years and just recently was able to comes to term with it. This website has helped me so much- it is so great to talk to others who are going through the same thing. Also, I wanted to let you know that I have been receiving Reiki treatments for 2 years, and although it hasn't helped my hair grow back, it has helped give me the inner strength that I needed to deal with my alopecia. I have learned so much about myself from Reiki- I would definitely recommend that you try it! Here is the website of my Reiki instructor (I'm sure they have someone similar where you live). http://www.universalhealing.info/ I agree that doctors don't have enough knowledge about alopecia. My dermatologist was really friendly, but he didn't know much about it or how to help me....I pretty much did all of the research myself! Stay strong, keep smiling, and know that you are not alone :) Feel free to ask me any questions or chat anytime.
Cheers,
Natalie
