I held another support group meeting on the first day of spring, March 20th. It was nice to see some old faces and even some new ones. Although we were a little tight on space, it didn't seem to matter too much as everyone seemed quite comfortable with each other. All of my youngest members came, one who's head looks just like mine and is the biggest sweetheart, one who's hair has actually come back in and refuses to let his mom cut it and our junior role model who's video we watched of her region winning speech on alopecia as her trophy became our centre piece.

It was amazing to see how much these children have changed since I first saw them about a year ago. They were all relatively quiet kids at first who were so happy and outspoken the other night. Two of which have made a wonderful connection and have helped each other unimaginably whether they know it or not. A couple of firsts for our meeting in general was the shedding of the wigs which was an incredible moment. This all happened on their own accord and it was so nice to see so many bald heads in one room for once. Another first for our meeting was to have two adult women in the room who regularely went out bald. It was very encouraging and pro-alopecia and although wigs are normally a common topic of discussion at most meetings, it was hardly talked about this time.

I also introduced my plans for a woman's luncheon comming in April as well as the camp I am planning this summer. I was nearly speechless when some of the members volunteered to fundraise for the camp, afterall, good help is so hard to find these days. We also talked about an alopecian who is trying to form a Canadian organization and how we would like to encourage insurance companies to drop the word cancer from its wig policy and/or replace it with something which addresses other medical needs. It was a good meeting, refreshing, and I look forward to doing it all over again in June!

I've tried holding the meetings at various places but it seems to work best at someone's home where privacy is assured. I'll let you know how the woman's luncheon in April goes though. Thank you for your kind words! :)

Carol,

I'm so happy for you and all the members in the support group.
What if all the local support groups got together and did a live feed video podcast?
omg is that too out there?

It may be a little out there. Canadians for the most part are very conservative people, it's hard enough to get a group of alopecians out in public let alone doing anything video. Even taking pictures is a sensitive subject which is rather unfortunate because it would be great to get some shots of the meeting in progress and whatnot. However I will have my camera handy for the camp and those who wish can leave a special message as I want to make a video of the weekend and mail it out to everyone later.

A very sensible and sane start before my craziness sets in LOL
