A breakthrough in my 'wig theory'
Just had a epiphany a few hours ago on how I feel about wigs and 'needing' (in some people's opinions) to wear them.
It is like putting the fact that I DON"T have hair in my face. When I wear a wig it HURTS. Like when your boyfriend broke up with you and you have to see other couples together and blissful, It just frustrates and angers you. Not so much jealousy as longing gets stirred up in me when I don a wig. It is not pleasant. I wish people could understand this, people without alopecia I mean. Some do but others....

your epiphany sounds great for me!!!
I feel pretty much the same way! My AA started last year and after I shaved my head, I was lucky because my insurance payed for a wig. So I picked a nice one that everyone I know has complimented me on... But for me it feels like another hat or scarf. It may look like hair but it is not!
It's not MY hair!!!
Most ppl understand why that thing is still in the same box it came in but others (my mans Granny) keep asking why I won't put it on and just don't get it. The occasional "Well, it's your head, so you surely know best..." makes me angry at times.
Of course I know ppl would stare less if I wore a wig instead of a scarf but on the other hand, I just KNOW I wouldn't be comfortable, knowing it is just a wig. I'd probably touch and pull it all the time to make sure no one can see it is a wig and that would be worse than the stares.
Ppl just have to accept that you're not comfortable and that it's none of their business!
