So...I was researching wigs online and I found a web site called wigs.com and it seems that they have a nice selection. I just don't understand the difference between synthetic and real hair wigs. I know I want a human hair wig so I can style and wash it like normal hair, but I don't know where to begin. If anyone has any suggestions or comments they would be really appreciated. Also, if anyone knows a good website that sells human hair wigs please let me know.

Check the wigs section of the forum. Lots of previous posts in there with good info. I found wigs.md to be cheaper than wigs.com. Are you shopping for your first wig? I always recommend to people that when shopping for their first wig that they go to an actual wig shop instead of buying online. This gives you one-on-one help. You can try on different kinds of wigs and learn all those differences...monofilament top, lace front, etc. I found going to the shop to be very helpful. Different people prefer different types of wigs. A lot of people praise the human hair and then a lot of people (myself included) prefer the synthetic. Please feel free to message me anytime! But as far as advice on where to start, I will always recommend going to a shop. You will learn more there than online.

There is a wealth of information online at - "Wig Support" is a sub group of groups.msn.com

Lots of photos of actual people wearing wigs, manufacturer's photos, links and tons of reference material. If you spent a couple of hours online there you would be well prepared and educated prior to going to try some stuff on.

Just as a quick note, I wear synthetic wigs too. The Raquel Welch ones are my favorites and I also like the Revlon wigs too. My most important suggestion would be to only consider the Monofilament Top wigs regardless if you choose synthetic or human hair or a blend (Sometimes also referred to as Mono Tops or Hand tied - they give the most natural looking crown and can be parted in any direction).

Good luck with your research and let me know if you have anymore questions.

I agree with what both Orbit & Mandy said about going to an actual store and getting as much support as possible. I however wear a 100% human hair wig and have worn synthetic and blended and now human hair. Human hair is by far more expensive but just like anything, there are pros and cons to everything out there. You need to determine what is best for you and for your lifestyle. For me the human hair looks more real on me and lasts longer than the synthetic ones did...especially since I do not have multiple wigs or change them on various days. I would strongly recommend you go to a store in your hometown and check out the variety and try on some styles to see what you like best, as the other ladies also mentioned.

Keep me posted on your decision. All the best.
