So my school was being sued for years and recently they lost. Some doctors screwed up six years ago and the families of the patients sued and won. So what do they do? Raise the nursing student's tuition! Yeah, good idea. We don't have a nursing shortage and the nurses were the one's who screwed up after all so put it on them (heavy sarcasm). Anyway 2000 a term = 6000 more a year and I have to figure something out.
Then this wonderful scholarship presents itself. I'm stoked it's 5000 a year for the last two years of school and the requirements are tight but I fit them. So I go up against only two other students (both friends of mine).
Today I find out that I didn't make the cut and they will be interviewing against each other for it next week. Here's the thing that really gets me. They are both married in two income households without kids. I am married, but in a single income household with two kids.
So why didn't I make the cut you must be wondering. Well let me tell you then. I get more financial aid money than they do (which still doesn't cover tuition now) for two reasons
First - I have kids.
Second - They both have Bachelors degrees in other fields (I don't).
Also they've told me before that their parents help them out financially. Well that's great for them and all but I don't speak to my father (haven't in years) and my mother can't help me out (she would if she could).
So thanks a lot fucked up system, now I'm probably going to have to take a leave of absence for a year.
XOXO
CAR
P.S. I seriously cried about this when I found out and I haven't cried since God knows when.
P.P.S. I applied for a job up at the hospital today that would help make up the difference in tuition if I got it so please say a pray for me.
