New Wig!

I just received my new, custom made wig today.

It is simply gorgeous!

I have a small head, and this wig fits perfectly.

The unique colour I chose turned out perfect.

It has european human virgin remy hair.

It is the best quality wig I have ever owned.

It arrived in 28 days.

The prices are in USD; even with the current CDN exchange rate, it was still a good deal.

With several emails back and forth, Melesha (who is located in…

A Big Secret?

I recently stumbled upon the F****a website, they sounded okay so I sent them an email through their site to find out more information about their wigs. Well, I was contacted by a rep in my city (they are based in the U.S. I am in Canada). She tells me she also has alopecia..yada yada and would like me to try their Gripper wig, tell her what shade and length I would like and she will have some ready for me to try on.

Due to where in the city she was located I commented back that now… Continue

Peeved

It's daunting enough when trying to find a wig that meets my needs, but I just get really peeved when dealing with certain 'sellers'. You know the ones. Where they 'understand' because they have alopecia too, so that makes them more 'compassionate' than any other seller. But don't let that facade fool you. They are the most viscous of the bunch, only out for the money. They prey on your weakness, vulnerability and insecurity. It's funny how they're the ones that sell the most expensive wigs out… Continue

Follow Up? Burn?

I decided to cancel my follow up appointment with the doc. I certainly wasn't going to try either of the pills he suggested. Heck that was some nasty stuff. I'd have to get blood tests weekly to monitor my organs. No friggin' way! Then the pepper (capsaicin) cream; I would have to start at 0.025% and work my way up to 0.075% if that was ineffective; and at about $20 a tube. So you know what I did? I went to the grocery store and bought a small $3 tray of the hottest little peppers they had,… Continue

Finally the long awaited appointment!

So I finally saw the new doc about new treatments available. The doc is just a kid. Well, he gave me one topical solution to try, also info on two drugs that I could take. I would really appreciate if any of you have any knowledge/experience on these drugs. They are as follows:

Topical Solution- Capsaicin; derived from the hot cayenne pepper. Used to control pain & itching. Causes stinging and burning. Not too many serious side effects.

Pill- Cyclosporine… Continue

Chinese Medicine

Well I saw the Chinese Medicine doctor on Wednesday. I like her. It seems positive. Basically she's going to work on my overall well being, because, lets face it; I'm a mess. Maybe my headaches, IBS, cramps and acne will improve too. It can't hurt to try. I would be taking a specifically made mixture in the form of a pill, along with acupuncture treatments. Both to start with more and wean down to nothing over time. The one drawback: co$t. One acupuncture treatment is $75 at 1-2 per week. The… Continue

How long?

Apparently a new doctor is supposed to be coming back in January after many seminars etc. with new knowledge about new treatments. I had an appointment on Oct. 14; they just called and told me when my appointment with him is; it's March 12, 2010; 5 months from now, 6 months from that appointment!

Because of this mega-long delay I finally called and made an appointment to see a Chinese Medicine doctor. Guess when I see him? This Wednesday. So I have 5 months to try out Chinese… Continue

Surprise!

Here's something funny; I just went to see my dermy today and as per usual, a student doc is sent in first. She actually wanted me to point out where I have hair missing on my head. She looked surprised when I said that it's missing everywhere, all over my body. Now that's the true test of a good wig, when a resident can't tell that it's not your own hair! She even had to look closer to see that I had no eyelashes.

A Haircut

I just got a new "haircut". I bought a new wig and it looks like I just cut my hair. It's also a lot more comfortable too. It has a mesh cap as opposed to the usual lace, plus, it fits much better since it's a petite size and not the usual average size which always buckled up on the back because my head is small. I'm temporarily happy; that is until my own hair actually starts growing back again. :)

Not Alone

I'm kinda glad that I'm not alone in this and at the same time sad that we're in this too. I used to feel all alone, but since I've found this site I'm swimming in a veritable sea of bald heads. ;)
Hey, we're not bald, we're follically challenged. :D

Wig costs.

There is so much advertising for wigs on this site that I inquired at Peggy Knight Solutions about wig costs. They emailed me back saying, "Pricing for our prostheses starts out at $2,500.00." Is it just me, or does that seem a bit high? The last wig I bought was from Paula Young. It's a human hair wig with a mono front; and I only paid about $60 for it (on sale from $189). It actually looks quite good, especially since I tweaked the colour by dyeing it to something more suitable for me. The… Continue

Crocheted Wiggies Cap

I have a pattern for a very cute cap know as a wiggie. It's very cute and really soft and comfortable to wear. You just use fun fur in any colour of your liking. I made a nice one in copper for around the house (my head gets chilly in the winter), and if you combine the fun fur with a satin yarn of similar shade (and make it longer for a fold up brim) you have a lovely fuzzy, soft and warm hat for the winter.

Here's a pic of a wiggie:…

My First Blog Post

Funny thing, I have an adorable Pomeranian, now 9 years old, who also has alopecia. Poor thing was almost completely bare except for his head, legs and spine (called him Spike for awhile), but his hair grew back. He just has a little bit left to fill in on his butt (his longish fur covers it up; talk about comb overs) It was probably due to changing his diet a bit. No more wet dog food for dinner, he usually got a scrambled egg (lots of vitamins & protein) on most days (with his dry… Continue
