Eyebrows

anyone out there have experience with permanent makeup?  I’m thinking of getting my eyebrows done. I’m tired of having to draw them on each morning. Micro blading seems the way to go. More natural looking. Any thoughts?

Wigs or not

Since buzzing what was left of my hair I haven't had the desire to wear any wigs. It just doesn't feel like me. I have also lost my eyebrows and lashes. The loss of my eyelashes almost feels worse than loosing my scalp hair. However, with makeup I am coping.

Bald

So.... Had a very severe bout of hair loss. Couldn't hide the bald spots. With the support of my husband, daughters and great friends, I shaved it all off. Very freeing! My husband says I look sexy, my daughters love it. I feel supported. I have gone out to dinner and shows without a wig or any head covering. Since I live n Arizona, I have lots of hats too. Having fun with eye makeup.

Fashion magazines

I love fashion magazines. I can't really explain why but I love the artistry of design. Have you ever noticed (those of you who read them) that when they publish a feature about "hair loss" alopecia is NEVER mentioned??????? Why is that?? Do we need to have a louder public voice?? Just a thought.

A little depression

Had a bout with a little depression yesterday. Didn't sleep well, got my hair cut short to fit better under my wigs. I liked (like) the cut but really wished that I could just have my own hair! By the end of the day though I was feeling better. My daughter and her partner are visiting for a whole week and we will have fun!

Going "all the way"

Is there anyone (I am sure there is) who still has some scalp hair but has shaved it off? Do you need to "shave" daily? Does it look like you have light and dark spots all over your head? I need some input because I am thinking of getting rid of what is left of my hair.

Anyone?

New hair!

I just got my first wig today. Went to the wig shop with my husband. He liked the one I picked out and another one also (shorter, same color) and insisted that I buy both. Since I always wear a hat or scarf, the wig doesn't feel that strange. I have decided to have fun with my new hair. Now I am contemplating whether or not to get rid of what I have left of my own hair.

Does anyone use those gel headbands? I am thinking of getting one just to add a little security.

Wigs (again)

Just went to try on wigs with my husband in tow. He liked what he saw unfortunately, the stylist had sold the particular wig I wanted to try on and show my husband!!! She will order one and we will go back next week.

Funny thing is, after all that and a trip out to dinner, I was walking my dogs when a gentleman complemented me on my hair (what little I have still have). So I think I will keep what I have, and wear a wig when I want a change of style or need more cover-up. Feeling… Continue

Insurance

I just found out that my insurance policy will not cover wigs even if the hair loss is caused by a medical condition which is covered! How crazy is that????? Oh well, at least I am not going to buy an expensive, custom made human hair wig!

Thanks

First of all, I want to thank you all for your comments on my post "Tired". I am calling to schedule my first wig appointment to try some on to see how they feel. I am seriously thinking about cutting off what remains of my hair too. I also have an appointment with my doctor to check my hormone levels. I have had a mild thyroid problem for years and when my current doctor took me off my meds, my hair started falling out more rapidly. I will see how things go after next week.

Thanks… Continue

Wigs

I have begun my investigation into the world of wigs. I will probably go to the local beauty shop that specializes in wigs and try some on with their wig expert. I sort of know what I want in a synthetic wig. I don't want to spend the money and time with a human hair wig (I want to invest my $$ in SCUBA gear).

I don't mind wearing a scarf or hat when I am working out. I usually wear either when I run on the treadmill and I wear a scarf under my bike helmet as a rule to soak up the… Continue

Tired

This is the most blogging I have done since joining Alopecia World. I am getting very, very tired of carefully styling my hair to hide my "spots". I am a very active person. I run, bike, and I swim almost daily. That means that I have to "do" my hair every day. I am sick of it. I am thinking of getting a wig. Any words of wisdom?

Viviscal

Has anybody heard about this product Viviscal? It is a supplement along with shampoo, conditioner, and a lotion. It is supposed to promote hair growth even for people with aa.

Wigs

Since my hair loss has been getting worse, I have begun looking at wigs. What experience have people had with wigs? What about synthetic vs human hair?

Comming to terms with hair loss

When my first patch of hair fell out, I was horrified. I had never heard of Alopecia until that time. I later found out that my father lost his hair due to alopecia by the time he was about 35 years old. I didn't begin loosing mine until I was about 45. I am now 55 and going thorough the worst hair loss I have ever experienced. I go back and forth between worry, anger and acceptance. Sometimes I wish it would hurry up and all fall out so I won't have to worry any more. I think about shaving,… Continue
