My bald head is my victory dance. And you?

Things have changed so much for me that most of the time I forget I even have alopecia. But I can assure you it has not always been that way.

I lost my hair 30 years ago. I have now lived my life more without my hair than with it. But at the same time, I clearly remember leaving the dermatologist's office and him telling me that I have alopecia and I…

Rite of passage

I'm 71. In a few years I'll be bald half my life. I don't even think about it growing back. Most of my friends decided to stop colouring their hair when Co19 hit. Sometimes I feel I'm missing out on a rite of passage.

Suddenly losing a ton of hair

Hi,

  1. I have Female Androgenic Alopecia.  It has been four years since I was diagnosed with Androgenic Alopecia.  I have tried everything and my hair is still thinning. I had PRP and did laser treatment. I am on minoxidil and I take 250 mg spironolactone everyday.  I had very thick hair so I am able to cover my thinning hair for now.  About two months ago I started to lose 300-350 hairs a day.  There is no end in sight.  My hair is just falling out everywhere.  I was wondering if…

"Change is hard at first, messy in the middle, and gorgeous at the end"

Did you know that we are not only the owner of AlopeciaWorld.com, but we are also photographers?

I met Michelle online and immediately connected with her.  This session started as a boudoir shoot and ended as a self-journey.  It was very touching and real as the photographs reveal a story of entering into self-acceptance.

Michelle wrote:

Looking back to when I developed AU

Right after I lost my hair this week in 2008 at age 56, I was in contact with two women who were putting together a documentary or a blog about alopecia - I don't remember what - named Margaret and Laura, out of NYC.  They interviewed me via Skype but I never found out what, if anything happened with that production.  Recently I did find a Facebook page for them: …

Would you do an Alopecia medication study?

I signed up to participate in an alopecia study I thought why not what could it hurt ? I’ve already lost all my hair so there’s nothing to worry about there . But then I think what if my hair grows back? Then I think if it doesn’t help me maybe it will help someone else someone young.Alopecia is devastating for me as an adult I can’t imagine having it as a child or a teenager. But now I’m kind of having second thoughts. I’m kind of worried about the medication I’d be putting into my body…

Embracing Yourself

An old quote goes “the worst loneliness is to not be comfortable with yourself.” When it comes to coping with insecurities after hair loss, you’ve got to embrace positivity. Remember that you yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserves your love and affection.

As every cloud has a silver lining, always take things positively. Don’t…

Musings on Spraying Your Bald Spots

It’s possible to conceal early signs of balding by using a concealer or bald spot spray. This is a temporary fix and might come in handy if you’ve just started shedding. They don’t get to the root of the problem. A good bald spot spray typically contains nanofibers and dyes.

Married to Mental Illness, a story about Alopecia from the other side.

I don’t have Alopecia, anxiety or depression. I haven’t had suicidal thoughts roam the sacred space of my mind, nor have I been bullied for my appearance. I am not familiar with the feeling of a panic attack or crippling social anxiety and, I have never felt so deeply overcome with mental pain that I couldn’t breathe. But - I was there for Leon through all of the above and this absolutely devastated me.

When you love someone, everything becomes a simultaneous…
