Not fair

I thought i was coping with this ok... i thought i was accepting it... but today was bad, we are going out to the bar tomorrow, and its the first time since i shaved my head. i barely wear my wig now because i hate the feeling of it so much, so i figured i could find something to wear to make it look amazing without hair.. but everything looks ten times better when i put my wig on... i picked out a dress, and then put the wig on and my friends said, and i also agreed, that it looks way…

Venting

People never cease to amaze me. So this woman at church came up to me last Wednesday, and asked me if I was wearing a wig. I was shocked and I started stuttering, and then I finally told her "yes", with a smile. She then asked me "why, because Indian woman have beautiful hair"? and I noticed that I was about to tear up so just then I took my mind somewhere else as I answered " I have a form of Alopecia". She then asked what that was, so I told her. It's surprising to me sometimes that some…

Still searching

Still searching for a group close enough to get together with or at least a friend for Kira. She is up to 80% Hair loss and considering shaving her head. She is alternating between feeling special, and heart breaking sobs because she is different. I wish I could fix it all for her... Friday is her 12th birthday, would that I could make it all better for her as the ultimate gift...

I got hair!

When I was a young girl I had long, thick, wavy brunette hair. It was so thick my mom used to ask hairdressers to "thin it out". Then at age 21 people began to point out a little thin spot in the center of my head near the front which grew progressively worse and worse. Of all the things I could have inherited from my dad, male pattern baldness would not have been my first choice.

Ten years before Rogaine was ever approved by the FDA for the treatment of hair loss I was already well…

A lot of shenanigans

I have only been diagnosed for oh 3 months now with AGA/TE, but one thing that I am finding a bit annoying is the sheer amount of hair loss shenanigans on the internet.

Try doing a search on YouTube for alopecia. I am looking for genuine people telling their stories. I personally find them helpful and inspiring. However what I mostly find are a lot of videos promoting a product or some dermatologist telling the usual treatment options for alopecia.

My favorite…

Loving and Alopecian Woman

Love her with every thread of your being.

Love her with every thread of your being. Love her with every emotion that is intertwined within every thread of your makeup. Love her from the heart. Love her from your mind, your body, your soul. Love her spiritually. For not doing these things encumber the armour she will need to protect her from the…

Growing Discoveries Through Letting Go

Somethin’ new is growin’ in my garden…

Watching change take place in our lives can at times be confusing and even terrifying. Even at times when change is supposed to be good. This is because of the unexpected outcome of the situation you might find yourself facing.

Having alopecia can present itself in the very same way. It’s full of…

Homeschooling?

I'm a 14 year old freshman and I don't wear a wig at all.. I don't like it. So i just wear a scarf. Everyday I end up in the bathroom crying because of the mean people. I have other issues in my life and I'm becoming very depressed. I finally got a therapist but I'm thinking about being home schooled for a while just so I can get back on my feet. I just don't want to disappoint my friends. Any suggestions? Homeschool? Or not?

Eyebrows

It's been a while since I've been on here. I have profiles on at least four social networking sites and I sometimes lose track.

I thought I'd post some thoughts about eyebrows. I know there are discussion forums, but I get overwhelmed by those because one person says one thing and gets so many replies that it's hard to get back to the original question. I also figured that if anyone cares about what I have to say, they'll take a vested interest in my blog, instead of trying to search…

Acceptance and peace

Anthony's story update:

We went through all the blood testing for thyroid and allergies and anything else that we could think of. End result: he's perfectly healthy, but bald. We saw a pediatric dermatologist at the Children's Hospital and the only treatment we considered was SADBE (a chemical applied to the scalp that would create an allergy in hopes that it would divert the immune system from the hair follicles). We did the test spot and he had no reaction whatsoever. In a follow up…

Dying/colouring hair

So my dermatologist says it's okay for me to dye my hair.

Earlier this year i acted on this advice, however i found that a lot of my new regrowth fell out when i was drying my hair (obviously after i had washed the dye out).

Actually, it didn't really fall out, it was more that i found the small hair on my towel after drying my hair. Like i had rubbed them off.

That was the first and only time i dyed my hair (it was a wash out dye, didn't have bleach in it).

What are…

When common sense reigns

Everyone on here has those days when they wake up, wash their hair and think "hey, I think it's getting better!" And I for one, being the naturally anxious person that I am, starting getting a giddy, flippity-floppy feeling in my stomach.

This happened to me this morning. To be truthful...I suspect there is some improvement in my hair. And being that I don't know what exactly is going on, there might be for a bit. But I suspect that won't last forever. I sense genetics are against…

I wanted to let you all know that on Friday, Dec. 9th on ABC's 20/20 there will be a woman telling her story about having AA! I am so excited to watch it. I hope it isn't a 2 minute segment. I like seeing any story on TV about Alopecia. A member of the wigsupport.com website posted this link so a big thank you to that member for letting me know about it. Here is the link...…

Finally Healing

I dont cry as much.

But I still cry.

I dont worry as much.

But I still worry.

I dont use a fake smile as much.

But I still use a fake smile.

I still get hammered though.

And its still hard waking up every morning

Knowing that someone somewhere is going to

stare,talk,laugh because they

know half of my story.

I laugh with my friends

at my new school now.

I used to be afraid to laugh

at that school.

This woon in my…

Trying to cope

I had my third child about five months ago. After having her I DREADED the 3 month shedding of hair. It was pretty bad with my last pregnancy so I expected as much this time around. I had no idea it would be this bad though. I pretty much have a bald spot where bangs should be. I have been able to strategically keep it covered with hair and lots of hairspray. I also started using Toppik. It is really bringing me down. I am getting more and more discouraged. How do people deal with this? I…
