RN in NY

It's not the hair loss that has effected my life, it's the low self esteem that some people just don't understand, you know, the aliens that have hair lol!

wigs

I have lost about 50 percent of my hair and am thinking about just shaving the rest. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to keep your wig on with no hair?

My new wigs

I got some new wigs, and I am very excited. I will have to see how they wear. I did not have a good experience with my last wig, so hopefully I don't have to do hours upon hours of research on finding out where to get a quality wig from. The darker one was purchased from russian hair, it's a full lace wig with a silk mono top. I wish the whole wig could be made in the silk material. It looks so real. I am not wearing my darker one at this time, I have to get it cut and styled. The hair is… Continue

The eyes don't have it

I have had AU for 7 years now. I go without a wig or hat 99% of the time -
I still struggle with drawing on my eyebrows and using eyeliner - my eyebrows are crooked and if I do get them to look half way ok - it is usually with powder that does not last very long.

Any suggestions on what you have done?

Thanks

Regrowth?

I've had AU for about 5months. Today as I was moisturising after a shower, I noticed in the sunlight, fine light hairs on areas of my legs. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this? Is it regrowth or just a common part of AU? Thanks to anyone that can help.

Healthy, just hairless- Grrrr

Hello friends.

I've been a hairless wonder for the last 10 years. Alternating between Totalis and Universalis. The last 2 years I've gone "au-naturel" and go out bald headed most of the time. I'm tired of hiding the way I look under hats and/or wigs. It's been amazingly freeing to go out bald headed...and tho it took some getting used to being stared at, it's been kinda fun. (To be honest, I just tell myself people stare coz I'm so "gorgeous" they can't help themselves. HA HA HA).… Continue

Lesson learned?

Hi ,

I have been away a while, when my alopecia first started I thought I would be alright.I was on here a while reading some of your stories how life is for some of you who are dealing with the same pain as I am ,and I thought I could get through it.

When last summer of August my world came crashing down in front of me.

I was dealing with the shaved head I have, thinking I looked like a total freak.I could not grasp the fact I looked odd and different.

I wounded up trying… Continue

I wouldn't ask the genie for my hair back!

I've been struggling with a problem I've had for almost 6 years - severe jaw pain due to an injury to my TMJ in 2005. Every few months it acts up, usually brought on by too much talking. I love to talk, and I teach dance and drumming classes.

I reaggravated the problem at the beginning of February. It feels like someone is constantly sticking an ice pick into my cheekbone/jaw area, and it goes on for months at a time. Even quiet talking is too painful. Multiple doctors and many… Continue

Extraordinarily unique!

I visit alopecia world quite often.... I read most of the post and blogs here. Most days I'm left with a pain in my heart for those that feel as if having no hair has somehow changed they're very existence in the world. The fact is.... I feel as if I have been done a great favor by having alopecia. As for the people that I come across in life that cannot deal with the fact that I have no hair. That's their problem even if I had hair those types of people would find reasons to find f

Help?

So I've blogged something similar to this before, but I really need some of my alopecian sisters to help me out, if you can.

I'm writing a piece of theatre about alopecia. I want to tell the real stories of people living with alopecia, who have it now, who have had it, whose children have it. I want to tell your stories. If anyone's interested, I would really live to hear from you (and thankyou so much to those I have heard from already). I want to know about when you first found your… Continue

Babies, arguing, and hair lines

Well my hair line in the front is now gone =/

I came out to another person the other day...Why do they always argue...They always come back at me that it is caused by stress...and bleaching my hair too much...Do they really not understand that I have been to a Dr. They never trust me when I tell them it is a condition. They always blame it on me and my life style. Bad eating habits...wearing hats...even after I explain it to them...They keep arguing. It makes the whole coming out… Continue

Bummed about losing hair again

Well, it will be 2 years Gluten Free in June and 6 weeks ago I started to lose my hair again at an increased rate. I'd had a couple small patches here and there but was able to do the injections to get them to grow back. It's kind of depressing and I'm not really sure what other avenue to go. My patch has developed on the back of my head and seems to be about 4 or 5 in vertical by 3 or so in wide. Man, I thought I'd really found a source to help with the hair falling out. My derm was even… Continue

Hair care

Hello all my bald and beautiful people! I just wanted to ask if any of you know of any great and inexpensive products to use on your head that help prevent sun damage, dandruff and dryness? I use olive oil hair lotion but not sure if that is best? Also, what is a great way to shave your head? I have clippers and I shave mine myself but it doesn't even out the shiny bald areas...I am thinking about going shiny bald and am not feeling the whole razor idea...but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta… Continue

Well it was nice while it lasted

Well I've had about 4 months of regrowth and had a real funky still going on. I still had one patch on the side of my head but in the place that lots of girls are shaving for fashion at the minute and I have a tattoo on it so it looked like I did it on purpose. But this week I've had 2 stressful uni work deadlines and low and behold two little circular patches have appeared which I can't hide because my hair isn't long enough yet. Besides I have never had a flare up of alopecia that has not led… Continue

A lil update - my lashes are finally going

SO my lashes are finally going. I say finally like I was expecting this. In many ways, I was. And in many others, I was hoping that they would at least stay because knowing myself, I knew I would have to learn how to finally apply false eyelashes and man am I having a hard time with it. It was funny when I couldn't get them to look even! One up, one down! So anyways, but I think I'm finally getting the hang of it and am not as panicky when I apply them. If not, I find drawing on a thick line,… Continue

Alopecia is getting into my dreams

Im grinding my teeth in my dreams,

Feeling like ive been through a fight and relieved to have woken up,

How does she,a normal woman get the strength to get through this,

7 out of 10 nights this is the case ,

Im up now writing this so she can get a bit of… Continue

Ah, this emotional roller coaster! I have a question!

Hi all, I hope you are doing well..So I wanna give an uptake on my progress of my hair..My hair seems to be growing in in the spots that were bald and coalaced into one big spot due to the injections..Now it seems that since my hair is growing back I am getting new spots in the same area, but different spots..It also seems as though I have diffuse Alopecia on top of this AA..I am losing an enormous amount of hair and I am not sure where I am losing it from..Whether it be from the two bald spots… Continue

How do you control shifting/moving? Make the wig more secure?

I got my first wig in February and I am still getting used to it in some ways, but have a question. Throughout the day my wig shifts back and I find myself pulling it down in front. I bought a gel headband, but that doesn't seem to stay in place(I think that is more for when I don't have any hair on my head). I don't know if it just means that I need to trim my hair more, or what I should do.

Anyone have any pointers on what I can do? Anything to make it stay in place better? I can't… Continue
