Hi, I'm Rachel. In fifth grade i found out that i had alopecia areata. Through our middle school and most of high school i didn't have much of a problem hiding it. So over the past year I've had a lot and ups and downs with my AA. To start I guess I should tell you I've had AA since i was 10, and 15 years later here I am! All through out middle school and high school I just had a really weird hairline in the front while the rest of my head was covered in thick brown hair. Rachel,

I also just met people with alopecia. I went my whole childhood and teenage years thinking I was the only one.

I live in Indiana too.

I have worn a vacuum piece since 1989 and I still love the security and confidence it give. I also like being able to swim, go down water slides, ride on a motorcyle and NEVER have to worry about my hair.

Let me know if I can help.

Hello and welcome, Rachel!
Well, you are definitely not alone! But I know how hard alopecia can be; I have had it for about 30 years. Let me know if you need help or support. One thing that you might be interested in is my book, written for women, called "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" (It just won two national awards!) It has helped a lot of women! There is lot of good info in it, it can answer many questions, and it's a fun read, too. You can find out more on my page. It's available on Amazon.com. Let me know if there's anything else I can do! I am here to help.
