I am in my 30's and have had Alopecia areata for about past 12 years, on and off. In the past 2 years it got progressively worse, with no sign of improving. I believe that stress has also played a major role in my hair loss.

I havent found any treatment that works yet, natural or conventional but I keep my ears to the ground.

I would love to connect with fellow South African's and pool resources and knowledge.

Cannabis oil for alopecia?

Posted on February 23, 2015 at 1:30pm 20 Comments

There has a been a lot of hype about cannabis oil for the treatment of cancer in the media of late. In fact, I've seen many shows on it on CNN by Dr Sanjeep Gupter where it has literally saved children s lives.

A friend has recommended it to me for Alopecia but i cant find much research about its success rate with auto immune conditions.

Have you heard anything or had any success? Thoughts? I mean,if they are using it to treat cancer successfully, surely it could work for…

Where to find reliable/good quality human hair wigs in South Africa

Posted on March 19, 2014 at 4:30am 0 Comments

Hi all,

I currently wear a synthetic fibre wig but am doing some research on "upgrading"  Human Hair wig. Based on my research, I believe Full Lace 100% remy hair is the way to go.

Problem is, there dont seem to be many suppliers in South Africa and options are limited.  I am also very afraid of getting scammed, for example paying for 100% human hair yet its mixed with synthetic hair!

I understand no wigs get manufactured in South Africa and they all get…

I’m a 32 year old South African female. I have lived with Alopecia Areata since I was 22 however for the most part I didn’t worry about it as it was just small patches here or there that came and went and were easily hidden.

For the past 2.5 yrs one patch has become a second patch & a third and they have all become friends…spreading up from my neckline and sides to the top of my head. Daily I am losing more hair and its getting more and more difficult to hide. Basically I have…

Hi, I didn't go through with it because my hair miraculously went from 60 percent loss to 25.  And one of the requirements is you must have 50% loss to participate. But there's an alopecia areata group on FB that I'm  a mmember of where you can see the results of the medication.   I believe the profile pic  of the group is ribbons if you would like to join. All I can say is the stuff really works.  Thanks for reaching out.

Thank you Kim. Your words also ring true. I too keep trying and I just don't want to give up. However, other than transplant there aren't too many options. and I don't want to try that. acupuncture is one option I haven't tried so I'm looking around for one acupuncturist.
At any rate I intend to enjoy life . As you say one life one chance!!!!
