About Me:
I am a blessed wife and mother of 3 (2 boys 1 girl). My DH and I met and began dating when we were 17. We got married when we were 22. I graduated from college the semester we married and I began teaching. I, very happily, work in special education. Our beautiful children are 10, 7 and 5 years old. They are sunshine! My alopecia onset occurred at age 33 when my youngest was 3 years old, I lost my hair within 5 weeks time (everything but half of my left eyebrow and my eyelashes--by the way, half an eyebrow doesn't aide in beautification :}). My family has been a wonderful strength in my journey (before and after alopecia--though that is not how I define my life). I am the oldest of 6 children and my youngest brother (19 years old) also has alopecia. He had his first loss in 5th grade and he is an example of amazing positivity. I cried at times during the first 24 hours following the "official" diagnosis, but he put it in perspective for me and I have been fine, even happy, about this crazy thing I can't control.
Shortly after I achieved total baldness, I came home from work and my middle child ran by my car and waved. I noticed that he didn't have any hair. When I went into the house my sister (who is a stylist) told me that he had asked her to cut his hair like Mommy's. My oldest tells me that he can do hard things because he knows that I do hard things. My youngest loves to rub my head, especially when there are little pokey hairs and kiss my head. Her whole preschool class yells in unison, "Take off you hair!" every time they see me. Kids are wonderful!!!!!

I have had regrowth and loss a few times in the past years, each time I learn a different lesson. Who would have thought so much growth could come from hair loss? Love it!

Bald Girls Rock!

Hi Jenn- Yes, bald girls really do rock!! I'm so glad that I shaved it off- it was amazing! I am the happiest that I have been in a really really long time :) I love being bald! And my new lace wig is pretty wonderful, too. Now if only the weather would warm up, then everything would be perfect hehe. Hope that all is well and talk to you soon.

Thanks so much for the support, Jenn :) I have one quick question and I feel kind of silly asking, but I honestly don't know the answer. Where do you get your head scarves from? Can you get them from just any old department store or do you order yours special online or somewhere else? I just realized that I have never thought of that and I suppose now would be a good time haha. Thanks!

Jenn- I loved reading about what your little ones say about your hair :) You sound like you have a wonderful and supportive family. My family has been great in this whole process, too, and they are all going to be there when I shave my head next week!! Your attitude is inspiring, so thank you :) Take care, Natalie

Hey Jenn,
I remember you telling me about your younger brother at our lunch but that was quite a while ago now. Where is he serving? Do you like my cute little caricature my friend made? Yep, I'm pregnant. I'm having a boy at the end of April. Crazy, huh?
