5 years of happiness!

Posted on September 14, 2014 at 9:30am 4 Comments

It's been just over 5 years since I accepted my alopecia and stopped hiding beneath a wig. In that time I've met and married my gorgeous husband, had our 3rd child, completed post grad qualification in HR, been promoted and had so many memorable experiences.

I can honestly say that none of this would have been possible if I'd been wearing that wig still because for that whole time, I wasn't myself. Everything I did was hindered by baldness and a fear of being teased! I look back at my…

I am me!

So, just wanted to share a little grievance with you all and then you can all tell me I'm over reacting - but it's really got my back up.

Toni Warne = fantastic singer currently on talent show 'The Voice'. She's beautiful, talented and by appearing bald and talking about her alopecia - she's raising awareness for our condition which is totally lordable. However, If one more person tells me she reminds them of me or vice versa, I think I may scream!!!! Just because we have no hair, I'm…

Engagement

Posted on February 18, 2011 at 5:28am 2 Comments

Hehe, I'm so excited - I'm getting married! The date is set for 6th August 2011 and I can't wait.

I already have my dress, however I'm struggleing for ideas on what to do with my head! I don't wear a wig and have nothing to attach a veil to but I feel like I need something purely for decoration, any ideas?

Does anyone have any pictures of their special days?

Thanks for any help x

My first 'Bald' date!

Posted on September 2, 2009 at 1:45pm 4 Comments

I've been in a elationship for the past 10 years and it recently ended. During that relationship I'd lost al my hair so my partner had gone through al the trauma and supported me through it. Now I found myself single and bald and dating seemed completely daunting. Then a ew weeks ago I met someone on facebook ompletely by accident - a friend of a friend. We ended up chatting and found we had loads in common so he asked me on a date! I asumed he knew about my baldnes because of my profile… Continue

Out & Proud

Posted on July 30, 2009 at 10:06am 8 Comments

As of Wednesday last week I have ditched the wig and am wearing my bald head with pride. So far the response has been great. All was revealled at work fo the first time on Monday and everyone couldn't believe it but then said how much better and more confident I look!
Walking in to my local shop, meeting my friends at the pub, playing hockey, anythng - I'm not bothered about people seeing the real me - Best decision I ever made!

Emily, I think you're wonderful, and you give me so much hope. What a wonderful attuide you have through all this... it has basically tarnished my life and I feel that no guy would ever want me like this. You, and Cheryl and a few others on here who have met someone while being bald and who have found happiness and comfort are inspiring. Thank you-Sarah K.

Strange so many of us decided to come "out" recently. I just kick myself for not having done it 15 years ago, although it did not seem to be as accepted back then, think all the Gail Porter press coverage did a lot of good.

Hi Emily,

I love the description of being "out" - I used it in connection with The National Bald Out: "Come out of the wig closet", and "See you OUT there!"

I've been thinking for awhile of starting a new AW Group for everyone who goes out in public bald. Would you mind if I use the title of your Discussion, "Out & Proud" for the name of a Group?

Thanks,
Mary

Thanks a million!! Emily, you are very sweet and I appreciate a lot your comment!! Im a very insecure, too sensitive person and this makes me feel very depressed. In a rush I bought a machine-made natural hair wig and I found it a bit uncomfortable after a couple of hours.
