"I have been taking Finesteride for 18 months. My doctor doesn't want me to stop because she says it may not stop but definitely slows the progression of hairloss from FFA. I take 5mg daily. I've been skeptical until recently. I picked up a…"
"Thank you for sharing this! I believe the chemical reactions could be key. I've worn sunscreen since it was invented due to burning easily and loving the outdoors. I'm going to share this with my dermatologist who is willing to read the…"
"Hi Sha, My dermatologist diagnosed FFA a year ago when I went for a skin check (new town, new doctor). She will be the first to admit she didn't learn anything in med school about diet. She uses the pharmaceutical approach, yet is conservative…"
"Thanks for the information Nancy. I'm going ask my doctor to switch me from Finasteride to Dutasteride. Since they are in the same family she might be agreeable. If you know of any studies you can point me to that show the 50-60%…"
"I posted this on another part of the site but you may not find it so I'll post it for you here. I have taken Finesteride for almost a year. It doesn't seem effective but my doctor says it may have been worse without it. I'm 10 days…"
"I am 60% through a 16 day prednisone treatment to stop the inflammation. It seems to be helping. The itching is gone and I don't see much red on my scalp. The problem is I feel like crap on this medication. Only 6 more days. My doctor sent me…"
"Hi Toby. I have been on Finesteride for a year. It has not stopped the inflammation completely. I had an appointment with my doctor today and asked her if I should stay on it. She thinks it has slowed the progression of the disease but did…"
"I feel your pain! I had the old type of eyebrow tattoo and it faded very quickly. In 6 months I was drawing over what was left and in one year it was difficult to find the shape. I decided not to waste any more money and I draw them on adding an…"
"Thanks AnnieMay for your comment. My head has been very sensitive this summer. I have been thinking it is due to wearing hats a lot more. I'm trying to wear more sunscreen clothing and big hats so I don't have to use sunscreen very often.…"
"Very interesting information Liz. It really makes sense to me. This could also explain the sunscreen connection - sunscreen on the face next to the hair that is dyed. Thanks for sharing this. My dermatologist is interested in FFA articles I send…"
"I was diagnosed a year and a half ago. I noticed but didn't realize I had the same pattern you describe last July & August and this year. Last year I chalked it up to stress ( moving, building a house, living in a trailer). This year the…"
"Thanks for the encouragement! Today I met with a woman who owns a cannabis shop in town. She also has medical knowledge and came highly recommended. She listened to me and recommended a whole plant CBD tincture. It is alcohol based and I can use it…"
"Maria, I can relate on the stressor level. A year ago my hair loss became noticeable and a new dermatologist asked if I knew I had FFA. I was in the midst of purging 80% of belongings, selling a house, building a house, living in a small RV and a…"
I retired from doing and teaching massage therapy and moved to Colorado last summer.I love hiking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing. I'm in the perfect place to enjoy an active life. I was very recently diagnosed with FFA although I know I've had it for years. I kept asking doctors why my eyebrows were disappearing and they sent me for thyroid tests that were negative. I went for a skin check in CO and the dermatologist asked if I knew I had FFA. It's a relief to know and now I'm here gathering information.
