About Me:
I lost my hair at the age of 26. It started after I had my son. I have never been totally bald, but so thin on top that it is a comb over. For that reason, I keep my own hair buzz cut and wear a wig. It has been traumatic over the years. I am ready to overcome those bad feelings, so blogging and sharing stories with others will help.

On the lighter side I am an artsy person. Love music, dancing, doing water color painting, and writng. I am an avid video gammer, I am hooked on "Lost" and would love hearing recommendations for food, wine, music, and movies. Talk to you in cyber space.

Different Types of Alopecia

First of all, I want to say that everyone on this site is such a wonderful and beautiful person both inside and out.

So folks, I am not totally bald (I know I need a picture, but my husband hates taking them and I hate asking). I guess I have felt that having really thin hair on top is both a curse and a blessing all the same. I mean since I have eyelashes and eyebrows I am not as susceptible to illness, but also people still question me about why I wear a wig and what kind of… Continue

Hi Danna,
I see from your profile that your from WA, so am I, I was wondering where in Wa are you from? I live in Enumclaw, if your not from the west side you may not be familiar with it. I don't see any recent posts here, so I hope you get this. By the way the wig your wearing here looks great, I have one I don't particularly like, so any tips would be great. I have AA and at times lose large amounts of hair, so far it has always grown back but takes several months to do so. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Danna,
How are you doing? Let's you and I pull some of these gals together this summer. How about a camp out, or a picnic? Pass this along for ideas. This could be fun and turn into an annual event.
Talk to you later,
Donna~

"You sound like such a wonderful and diverse person. Tell me about Krav Maga. I have heard it is one of the best things to do to stay in shape. I have got to find ways to get fitness back into my life. My goal, run 3 miles."

Danna: Hey, sorry it took me awhile to answer (like 6 1/2 months!) you message. Krav is pretty amazing at keeping me fit. Also do kickboxing and circuit training as part of the regimen. At 55 I am in better shape than I was in my 20's! The best thing I have ever done for myself physically. And the people there are great too.

Danna,

I'm still thinning and definitely have scalp show through if I pull my hair back on my forehead. I have to wear it to the side and carefully disguise. When did you decide your thinning hair was just not worth the effort anymore and switch to wigs? Did the wigs give you more confidence? Also, did you try the usual treatments of birth control and spironolactone? I'm on both but am ready to just let it be. Of course, this will bring on a shed from the drop in estrogen...not too excited about that.

Sorry so wordy. Just want to get a little advice from someone who has been there!

I have certainly perplexed my sons by my descion to wear wigs. There whole life I lived in an unhappy marriage being told there was something wrong with me and my sense of adventure and fun. Tattoos were my way of expressing my difference. I already have lots of those. My eyebrows are tattooed ,very convenient ,I wake up with expression every morning. Now the different looks I can achive each day are fun in a new way. My Mother and Brother are estatic at my descion to blend in , my sons see it as selling out .....what do you think?..Lorena

I have been totally smooth for a long time , now I am trying this wig thing as I venture into the single world. I have had a lot of fun with it so far. I will always be different with or without hair. I have tattoos that run down my legs of fairies and flowers. I love having that understand. Thanks Dana for adding me, take care.

Malinda, I have androgenic alopecia. I have lost a lot of my hair from the top and sides of my head. I am not totally bald. A lot of people would think, yeah I have some hair, but it is not like Universal hair loss. People confuse what is going on with me and make something out of what they do not understand. I have been asked really stupid questions and had so many people make assumptions. I too have had to look inside as to what really matters in a friendship. I dumped those friends who couldn't accept me for me. This world is wonderful and awful at the same time. What I think you and I have chosen is to build people up and see the good. Thank you for your friendship.

You're my kind of gal if 60-70 degrees is too cold for you. I break out the coat as soon as the temp goes below 70. Of course, I've been in Houston all of my life.

Hi Danna,
I think I'm still recovering from the climb. Every muscle is still burning. It will be awhile before I take that climb again. Look forward to meeting you, I will let you know when my new hair piece comes in, and we can meet up. I will be anxious to get it cut and styled. See you soon. Cheers to better weather! Donna~
