Yea, Jessica, thanks for the link! My search continues. A friend of a friend is going to experiment with some dyes on synthetic pieces he already has. Sometimes I just want to rock it out, ya know? (Apparently Rose does too. :-) )

I have been wearing wigs for over 9 years now, and prefer synthetics with a mono top and lace front (at least). Now I am itching to go a little punk - maybe mix it up with some bright raspberry streaks, or do a darker color with blue or purple. Anyone else have luck with higher quality synthetics that are a bit more on the fun side, but don't make you look like a cartoon character?

i noticed the same thing too. however i think there have been some company changes lately. I got my gripper through peggy knight and i know she offers discounts often so maybe look into her next time.
how do you like your gripper?

Hi All!

I buy mine at Top Lace (toplace.com). A long one is about $600 and will last 1.5 to 2 years. Great quality lace and hair. Custom cap (you send in your head's template made with ceran wrap and clear tape). Takes about 2 months from order date to arrive though (dunno if me being in Canada made it a longer wait). Also make sure you buffer in time for error / changes; e.g. if the density is not what you expected. On par with the $4k lace pieces, so worth the wait!

They have more than just lace base pieces. Highly recommend that you read the discussions on the members forum first. The members are mostly men with AGA. You can ask questions, or learn lots just from reading the posts.

Another place Sassy Secret (sassysecret.com). The hair quality is great, but the lace was not as great (a bit itchy). No custom cap. If your head is one of the standard sizes then it's probably worth buying from them for the price - just might work out really well! They have funky colours too so I want to try them more one day.

About Kyla Martell. The Onrite company makes wigs that are called Gem or Gemtress. Some of them have a gripper type of cap-some caps are a sort of half gripper and half regular. They are all made for women who have had total or almost total hair loss. I really don't know why there isn't more discussion about them on this forum. They have several styles with Asian hair-if you buy from a sensible vendor such as Lori's wigsite-they are about $600-- 700.

If you buy one of the ones that comes with EHH then the price goes up by about another $800.On Lori's wigsite they go under the name of "Impressions" (some kind of labeling rule).

There are also many companies that sell a wig with a cap that has silicone around the perimeter-just so you know that the very famous names such as Peggy Knight are not the only companies selling a gripper cap. However, you have to be pretty experienced at wearing and ordering wigs to deal with those companies. They seem to have evolved out of the "full lace wig" business, but their wigs are usually Asian hair, and Peggy Knights is I think EHH. The really great thing about a well known company like Peggy Knight is the made to measure customer service you get. You pay for it, but it is very helpful for someone just starting to wear a gripper type of cap.
