I would stay well clear of Channel 4. The track record of that channel is very poor. I don't believe that the channel is interested in alopecia awareness in the slightest. I think they're just after using it to get attention.

There has to be strength in numbers and in all of us to make a positive change. To open peoples minds or take away the baldness, cosmetic disease stigma?
Take care and good luck,
Marianne

Hi Terri You've made a pretty good start with your blogs on this site, especially the one from 6 December.

Hello everyone, I joined this group in order to come up with some ideas to spread the word about alopecia. After 27 years I have decided its enough time spent hiding and now I want to tell everyone in an educational way, hoping that my voice might help others to also come out of hiding. DONE WITH HIDING!!!!!!

Hello everyone. Summer I feel you in the part of the eye lines for me also the eyebrows permanent only me and pain - no tattoos. Is a kind of scary way for me.

Being bold over my baldness is sometimes difficult when I come in a new situation but for my work I do it many times and people react very good to it.
I don't wear a wig but use caps/hats/bandanas etc. and it feels quite good.

Happy to learn about this group.

Sam

I like to think that I have been doing my bit to spread knowledge, and raise awareness of diversity. Raising levels of awareness though is frustratingly slow. Nevertheless just to show how things have changed, the following comment was made by someone in my annual appraisal in 1999: “David should be aware that his appearance is upsetting to the uninitiated”. This kind of prejudice was always there, but this was the first (and only) time it had been stated in such an explicit way. I still work for the same company, but fortunately for me matters have improved considerably since then.

Hi! I work in a school with teenagers. Since coming to terms with my areata (spreading daily) I shave my head and go to work somedays in a work, other days in various head scarves. Once over the initial - have you got cancer? - the students are wonderfully honest about which scarves they prefer and how my wig is doing. I am quite open to showing them my head when they ask and they are fabulous about it! We have some students with alopecia and they've told me it's helped them. Nice to know it can have benefits!
