I just thought some of you may be interested in the article that will soon be published. It is a case study of one woman with FFA. They analyzed her hair and found titanium nanoparticles in the shaft. This chemical is found in many sunscreens and other cosmetics. The article is attached.

My sunscreen also contains titanium oxide, a few days ago I posted it. I used it abbundantly over the years.

Whoa. Very interesting.

i didn’t understand why they might link FFA to sunscreen but studies like this would explain it. I use all non-nano zinc oxide now though one “Kiss My Face” product in my cupboard has 6% non-nano titanium dioxide.

I may have completely thrown out the stuff I used to use so I’m not positive what all the ingredients were.

Here’s what I am thinking about, though. A dentist, when I was in my 30s, some years back, filled two of my teeth. I had never had a cavity and a dentist friend said he didn’t see one on my X-ray so I wish I had not let her drill. Still pisses me off. Anyway.... I just Googled and learned fillings can contain nano metals and nano titanium dioxide. OK.... how frightening is THAT that the article I pulled up said they THOUGHT it was inert, but this study you shared (thank you for sharing!) says it is now a probable carcinogen?!? Well I just had a horrible experience with a sudden tongue cancer last year. I am grateful to have survived and caught it relatively early. But it did not test positive for any HPV (can be a cause) and I am not a smoker. It is on the rise among nonsmokers, but is quite rare still. Anyway, this is all a weird coincidence — a rare autoimmune condition and then a rare cancer?? And titanium dioxide could be in my mouth????

Interesting but it's ONE person.

In my hand now I have a bottle of the sunscreen I had used for 25 years. It has no titanium or titanium products listed on the label.  and I rarely used it on my forehead (always wear hats).  At the suggestion of a hair specialist, I stopped using this sunscreen two years ago , and was told to use a sunscreen with zinc and.....yep, titanium! My FFA did not stop either when I discontinued sunscreen.

Myquestion to researchers is this: sunscreen is used by billions of people around the world for decades now. Yet FFA is a still a rarity. The studies all use small numbers of subjects and the only thing they can cite is that in these small test groups, those with FFA have a 'statistically significant increase in sunscreen use'. Perhaps if we look into WHY FFA sufferers seem to use more sunscreen (if that is actually true) we might find better answers. Is it because they burn easily with fairer skin? Is it that they react to the sun? Have rashes that worsen with sun exposure?Have sensitive skin? Dry skin , eczema or psoriasis? Rosacea? Very flawed studies , even just from this one viewpoint.

Could it be that new chemicals have been have been added to sunscreens over ther recent years?

This case study describes total regrowth after stopping sunscreen use on the forehead.  A quick Google Search shows there has been a lot of research in this area over the past couple years.  Some studies report a possible interplay between thyroid disease, autoimmunity and sunscreen.  One page mentioned an autoimmune "lichenoid " reaction to the titanium.
