Hi all,

This is my first post, I'm new to the forum, but have so far found the discussions very enlightening.  I was wondering if anyone has heard or noticed anything about mold in the home being a trigger. I moved into my apartment a year and a half ago, about a month before my eyebrows started falling out. Shortly after I started to get skin rashes (lichen), and now I'm losing hair around my hairline. I'm 90% sure there is mold in this apartment and I'm wondering if moving could slow down/stop progression for me. Has anyone had similar experiences?

Another question about Rogaine, if anyone can help: is there any value in trying out the lower dose before moving to the 5%? My doctor suggested the 5%, but I'm pretty sensitive. Or do you all suggest the higher potency to potentially save as much hair as possible?

Thanks in advance for your help and input. And for all the support, I'm so glad I found this forum :)

Sarah, FFA is a new condition, first diagnosed by Kossard in 1994, household mold has been around for centuries if not thousands of years so this is nothing new in the environment and our mothers and ancestors had the sane DNA as us abs they didn't get FFA. The cause of FFA is unknown but is obviously something relatively new in the environment. Dr Vera Price in the USA who is part of CARF thinks that dioxins could be a trigger. Anything that has been around for a long time is not the trigger because this condition did not exist historically.

If you are using minoxidil you may as well go for the 5 per cent dose and if it does not suit you then reduce it to the 2 per cent. This is a very tricky condition to treat so I would hit it hard with the 5 per cent.

Good luck xx

Hi Sarah, welcome to our group.  I'm so sorry you're having to deal with ffa.  I agree with Debs, try the 5% Rogaine for the best results.  I was diagnosed with ffa a year ago.  I've been using the foam version for about 11 months all over my head, and have had good results thickening up my hair in the areas that haven't scarred over.  I also use it on my eyebrows and haven't lost them to ffa yet.  My head is also sensitive, and I experienced itching & tenderness for about a month while I adjusted to the Rogaine.  The side effects weren't severe enough to make me stop using it.  My doctor said the foam version is less irritating and can be used only once a day after the first six weeks.  Good luck to you.

It will spread and will infect everything possible in a deepest level that will be hard to remove and needed to change, even walls or roof.

Hello there. I would recommend you asap to call experts for them to clean and remove every possible mold hearth because this is a fungus property, affecting your hair is not the last stage. Nails will be next but after inhaling for some period of time for sure they can inhabit some parts of your body and this is a critical moment for your health. Removing and healing your body with such type of problem will need diet, very expensive medicament  and more than 1 year to practice treatments hoping everything will be fine. But there is no guarantee that after some time it will not appear again, it's very serious! If you don't know who to call, you can contact www.Damagecontrol-911.com . They are my personal firm in such cases I rely on.
