hi FFA people,

I am new at all of this but I got a biopsy done and it came out negative for FFA and rather it is saying that its non-scarring alopecia and rather it is called androgenic alopecia.

My doctor - who is a resident- is saying that the biopsy is wrong and that I should do the injections anyway, because I'm  clear case of classic FFA. I refused it, and asked them to retest another piece that is still in the lab.

I am wondering if anyone in this group has done a biopsy and it has returned NEGATIVE and your doctor insisted it was otherwise. Please let me know. I see the silver lighting and i'm going to hold on to it with every single fiber in me. I want to know if its a common mis-diagnosis

thank you in advance,

Hello Erika, sorry you are in the midst of any and all of this alopecia business! My experience was that I had a biopsy and it was positive for FFA. My dermatologist did say that he had to get the biopsy from the correct place because otherwise we could get a false negative. Is it possible for you to get a second opinion? The one other thing I have to add is that recently I read an article about FFA and they talked about something  called “dolls head“ or something like that. It showed a picture of a profile of a dolls head and then next to it was an FFA patient with her hair brushed back and there was a striking similarity. The writers of this article said that alone was basically diagnostic. I will say that looking at things like that make me feel very sad so if you do search for such things please have that in mind. All of the best to you including that it is not FFA!

HI Erika, I just wanted to share I have FFA, classic in presentation.  I have never had a biopsy. My derm never suggested it she knew straight away.  Having researched FFA I have no doubt I have it, I match all the symptoms and pictures of other sufferers.

Good luck with your next round of results.
