I’m 24, female and basing fast. My whole life has been a struggle. My family was dysfunctional, my mother had severe alcohol dependency issues, I suffered sexual abuse from a family friend, and again when I was older. As a teen I went through years of being hospitalised for anorexia. There was a time when I was 19-20 when I thought things were going to be ok. Then at 21 I started losing hair, was told my hormones had all but abandoned me and that I would never have children. The hairloss has been rapid. I was disfonlsed with AGA in 2015. I started using topical and oral minoxidil, the pill (Diane) and Spironolactone. Well the spiro made me sick so that was out a few months later. However I noticed something else these past few years. I shed almost every 3-4 months badly on midoxildil. For a good month or two, maybe three. It’s totally fucked my hair cycle. So whilst it has regrowing
My hairline, it still recedes every few months, and my hair density can’t keep up. Lately my hair is the worst it’s ever been. I have been thinking “I have to find a good antiandrogen”. I’ve been looking at topicals, shampoos - everything. I started Dutasteride this past week (0.5mg once a week). Then this morning (after starting another week of another HUGE shed) that it is all hopeless. What good is trying to keep the hair if Minox is just going to make it fall out every few months? It’s not like I can always keep my hair short, because I’m a female. So effectively i’m screwed. I am totally screwed. Considering suicide and have already attempted a few years back. I can’t do this.

Hi there

Wondering if any ladies here have tried Dutasteride and what your experiences were? I have just started taking 0.5mg a week. Any advice or experience greatly appreciated.

Hello,

I am seeking fellow people with AGA who are very interested in finding treatments that REALLY WORK. I love NAAF, and wish there was a similar non-profit for AGA. In the meantime, the following free websites wish for you to contribute ideas to the good of the CAUSE: hair treatments that work for AGA.

www.hairgrowthcampaign.com

www.folliclethought.com

www.hairlosscure2020.com

Contact any one of us with your good ideas for making treatments a reality.

Hi emsy; have you thought about using minox on your brows? I've heard it works very well. Also for your lashes there is something like "eyelashes rogaine" if you will called latisse. I am on the verge of trying this also as my lashes are crap! Have you noticed any hairline recession? I have diffuse all over thinnig
But my nape as hairline have receded and are receding terribly :(

Hi Littlesadeyes. I have been on spiractin 100 once a day for 3 months I also went back on pill and feel there has been a slow down of shedding. I use mindoxil too and had been for a while this might have helped some growth but it didn't stop shedding.
I will be going to see my endocrinologist on Monday so will be interesting to see what she says. Yes my eyebrows are going significantly will be getting them tattooed. Eyelashes have thinned too.

Hi ladies

I have been suffering with hairloss for over a year now. I'd just like to ask a few questions with relation to AGA:

Has anyone had much success using spironolactone? I have started taking it - 100mg x 2 daily about 4 weeks ago. I think i'm actually having a shed!

Much success with minoxidil? Again, have just started to use this again after my first attempt where i noticed that huge dread shed in the beginning and freaked out!

Has anyone done the Spiro/minox/nizoral combo with much success?

ALSO this is a big one... has anyone noticed hairline recession, eyelash and eyebrow thinning along with their AGA?

I also have incredibly low estrogen. Anyone been on HRT and seen good results with hair regrowth?

Any input would be hugely appreciated!

You can create closed groups on face book that can only be joined by someone who is already a member letting you in - my two glaucoma support groups are run that way. I didn't find any active Alopecia support groups on there but it would be easy enough to start one if you wanted.

Thanks Kate and Kirsten its was good to hear from you. Is this sight very active? do you belong to another one too? I think a face book page would be good but I wouldn't want anyone who is not in the group reading my posts. Only my 2 close friends, my sis, my mum, my partner and my 3 little children know I wear a topper so far.

Paula - So happy you are here. I haven't shaved yet, and I think I have some time before it becomes a necessity, but I am mentally ready and I have started to mentally prepare those close with me. Sometimes I casually drop into conversation "Someday when I shave my head..." followed by whatever is appropriate for the time "it will be so easy to go to the gym at lunch" or "I will buy the softest knit beanies in the winter" or "we will save so much money on shampoo" just to get the idea in people's heads. I talk about it openly with my husband and sisters at times to gauge their feelings. At first, they were all aghast. But with multiple short conversations, they are all coming around. I think people's biggest fear is that it will cause others to ostracize or reject those they love. In reality, I expect it will draw far less attention than we fantasize it might. Anyhow, I am so grateful for this community because it helped me come to terms very quickly with the idea that hair does not make or break a happy life. Glad you are here and hope we can learn more about each other.
