I'm loving this. Learning a lot.
It's amazing how the puzzle fits together.

This is a very interesting group. What I find amazing is how many ppl say that their eczema cleared up and the alopecia ran amock. The same with my son. He has (had) bad eczema and some psoriasis, but that has since come under control (without medication), but then he lost all his hair. We are still waiting for the hair to grow back. We also try to restrict gluten, sugar, dairy, nuts, eggs, etc., but by no means are we perfect. That has cleared the skin, but no hair growth as yet.

Hi everyone. I have just joined, and just lost my hair (au) 3 months ago . It fellout over a 3 week period, very scary! I am under the dermotolagist anyway for ezcema which I have had all my life and had been taking cyclasporine which was very sucsessful in keeping my ezcema at bay. Sadly it was this drug my dermotoligist thinks that made me lose my hair.I wondered if any one else has had a link with cyclo. and hair loss?

Hi all, I've had pretty severe atopic eczema all my life, sometimes with very bad flare ups, and I have also noticed that over the last few months, when my alopecia has been the most aggressive ever, my eczema has been no problems. So I think you are onto something. And I do think they are related, in so much as the body is genetically predisposed to accidentally attacking itself, however that manifests itself!

hey sherry - kaiana's mum here. yep she knows not to use it everyday. she only uses it when it gets bad.

Elocon is definitely good Kaiana, but do not use it everyday. Your dermatologist should have told you it thins your skin.

I have had excema since I was a child (arms, legs (back & front), stomach, back, ears) - I am now gluten/wheat/yeast free and virtually dairy free as these trigger my excema. My excema has finally disappeared totally - but I have no hair! My allergist says there is no connection but my dermatologist says there is - go figure.

I've wondered about the relationship toward eczema and hair loss. My hairdresser has told me that my scalp was red and inflamed and the hair loss I have is a small bald spot at the crown, and general thinning mainly in the front. The hair loss comes and goes. It's seems to be acting up again.

The coolness of Aveeno helps me tremendously in the winter, but yeah, it can be pricey. Wal-mart has a generic brand that is a bit cheaper.

Cetaphil, insanly expensive here in NZ but Australia it is by far cheaper. I get a friend to post it over and it still works out cheaper than buying it in the shops here! Not sure how it is priced anywhere else in the world. I'm Kaiana's mum and we have used most creams/ointment/lotions over her lifetime and this seems to be the most effective thus far. Soap-free body wash and the hydrating moisturizer!! Best her skin HAS EVER looked and felt.

@sherry - yes its related. they are both immune type disorders. like the association with allergies (which eczema is anyway really...)
