Today I went to the gym i joined (Brick Bodies) and needed some info about a pulled hamstring in my left leg - the guy I talked to (a trainer) had never heard of Alopecia Areata and I said - look its not contagious ! please look at my leg - What a jerk ! I showed him my leg - and he said " I hope its not contagious" - how would you feel ?

yeah it is some thing to think about my dad died the same way and my nan on my dads side so i do believe this addiction is inherited , which is why i scared the s... outta my kids about drinking my eldest son could well have gone the same way as my bro and dad but he has realised that he could go that way and just drinks in moderation now hes 22 , my bro started really young about 15 i would say and he got really ill the last few yeas of his life and when he died he died alone and he was un recogniseable as my bro i hadent seen him in about six months he was bad at staying in contact have n said that he kept working right up till 6months before he died with the same company and worked his way up thro the company he didnt look like a drunk but got made redundant 6 months before he died and must of jus let him self go xhe never told us how ill he was and it turned out he was on the transplant list which we did nt know but he was still drinking as well . he was actually very very brave and i do miss him so much . poor you i have just unloaded my thoughts on you x i have found that since belonging to this world i have spoken about lots of things i have never told any one

I'm very sorry to hear about your brother. I've been thinking about that sort of thing a lot lately. My father died from alcohol related illness as well.

I started partying early and then became a musician and it just kind of comes with the territory. I took a long time for me to learn how to stand on my own two feet, without alcohol as a crutch. I quit smoking 3 months ago.

Hi gang!

I was maybe addicted to alcohol before. I was out very often and had beers just to get away from a lot of things including my alopecia. But ive been stronger nowadays and learned that wasnt the best thing to solve it with.

Its better to have someone to talk with about personal problems and so on.

Guilty! I discovered at the age of 14 that alcohol made me feel a whole lot better about being different. It took away all of my fear and shyness, probably not a good thing, but I don't think I could have done it on my own. I've gone through periods where I have definitely drank too much, but not consistently. I've tried every drug known to man, but luckily never became a drug addict. Sex however, is another matter.
