The IRS is specific about defining the limits of deductibles. You can deduct the cost of medical expenses if your medical bills are greater than 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. See IRS publication # 502 at irs.gov titled Medical and Dental Expenses.

This is from Pub 502 revised for 2008:

How Much of the Expenses Can You Deduct?

You can deduct only the amount of your medical and dental expenses that is more than 7.5% of your adjusted gross income (Form 1040, line 38).

In this publication, the term “7.5% limit” is used to refer to 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. The phrase “subject to the 7.5% limit” is also used. This phrase means that you must subtract 7.5% (.075) of your adjusted gross income from your medical expenses to figure your medical expense deduction.

Example.

Your adjusted gross income is $40,000, 7.5% of which is $3,000. You paid medical expenses of $2,500. You cannot deduct any of your medical expenses because they are not more than 7.5% of your adjusted gross income.

yeah really.....like I would make up having alopecia just to get a wig? I live right outside DC now...maybe I will sit on the white house lawn, bald, with a picket sign? hehe hey thats an idea actually!

I know that when any health problems arise, insurance companies can help very well with money. But there are always certain conditions. I get free insurance quotes on site Generalinsurance.com last year and I know that now, if something happens, I can count on it.
