What treatments are available for children with Alopecia?

It seems like there is nothing out there for kids with Alopecia, what can I do to help my daughter?
Does anyone know of any good doctors that seem to get good results?

Hi Mrs. Bosslady, I would like to also suggest that you get in touch with the Children's Alopecia Project, the organization goals is to build and maintain self-esteem while dealing with alopecia. I think it is also important to work on the emotional aspects of alopecia. I think it will be beneficial and one the best things you can do for your daughter, whether she grows her hair back or not. Please feel free to email if directly if you need to.
Hi

Cheryl has the best idea - do get in touch the the Children's Alopecia Project, they are a great organisation that will be able to help you and your daughter deal with this condition.

There is no cure for Alopecia Areata at this time, so any treatments or medications you may like to try will not make this condition go away, the best you can hope for is short term result (unless the medication you take is for life). If you try medications please make sure you fully educate yourself on side effects and the possible effects some treatments have on a child's ability to move on with life - some can be quite uncomfortable to use for a short term result, I feel not such a great choice (that's just my personal opinion - others do and will feel differently). Talk to Susan - she feels very strongly about some of medications she is trying.

Your daughter may go into natural remission - this has happened three times with my daughter. I have never used medications or treatments with her. The one thing I know about this condition is that it is uncontrollable, hair comes and goes when it wants with no true reason that I can see with my daughter. It's frustrating and upsetting, but we have moved past this in the last six years.

If I can be of any further help please feel free to drop in and say hi.

My son started to lose his hair when he was 1. and we have tried rogain the women strength one that you can just pick up at costco , its irritating to their skin but the doctor said it would cause its reopening the pores to try and let some hair grow back , honestly i use for my son and i think it works is i give him an avacodo a week and also i use selsun blue shampoo, it could be just my son trestin but he has almost of full head of hair i would say 60 percent of hair back and it grows like crazy . The doctor also told us vibration is going so we got one of those massagers that are like ladybugs or his is a bumble bee and let him watch a cartoon and just rub it on his head while he watches it .. He is now 3 almost 4.
Thanks for sharing this. I have never heard of some of your suggestions before. Can you tell me how the avocado helps. My daughter loves avocado and i could sure serve her that easily.
Thanks.
Hello Kami:

Did you have your son eat a whole avacodo? How many times a week do you use Selsun Blue? How long did it take to see hair growth? One week, two weeks, etc.?

I would also tell you to contact Children's Alopecia Project . They are amazing. My daugher has AA for 2 years and her extreme hairloss for about a year. I tried topical meds but found out that what we were doing really wasn't working. I have decised that we will stop the meds and see how it goes.
Children's Alopecia Project is AMAZING! I cannot recommend them enough! www.childrensalopeciaproject.org!

Where are you located? We've seen a great team at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and another at Hershey Medical Center but both are based in Eastern Pennsylvania.
I can recommend you Ayurveda oils treatment. I have been using this oils for 6 months and have great result.
I think this may help your daughter...Treatment is 100% natural and safe with no side affect!

Hi suzi,
My daugher is 3 1/2 and has alopecia totalis.

I have seen the website for alopeciacure and it is located in Surat. i am from india and we moved to US a year ago.

I'm trying to find out how good the "Alopecia treatment center" is. There are lots of websites which claim to have cure for alopecia but i'm too scared to try anything without finding out if its really good and its not just a money swindling scheme.

I have seen the website and it looks good. Kindly let me know any information u have about that center. Have u been treated there? is it really a good treatment center and is the doctor good?

I'm looking for someone who has been treated and can vouch that its a good treatment center and not just out for money.

looking forward to your reply.

Hi Madhu, how is your daughter doing now? Did you come across a treatment that worked for you?

Hi,
My daughter is doing better now. Black hair has started coming on her scalp, but eyelashes have not started coming back so i know her alopecia is still active.

We are on a treatment of clobetasol (topical) and rogaine and I apply ayurvedic oils on her scalp and massage every night. We got these oils from "Kotakal ayurvedic sala" which is a old ayurvedic center and it costs only around 500 rupees.

I do pray for cure everyday. i know this experience will make my daughter stronger and more confident in her abilities rather than her appearance.

I did want to do an allergy testing but doctor doesn't want to. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best.

I am going driving to see Dr. Naram next week, from Ayushakti-usa.com I will let you guys know how it works. I am expecting to get some oil too. I hope it works. Thank you for replying and its good to hear that your daughter's condition is getting better.
