Hiii,

I was diagnosed with AA in Apr 2012, since then i haven been losing hair in patches. Now the situation is such that there are no patches but overall the hair is very thin. I feel the hairfall isnt too much but there are no new ones coming in ... I can cover it all up ok but at times in a few areas the scalp is visible. My question is , is this the path to alopecia totalis ?? I dont want to use any steroids .

If I were to use a wig would I need to shave of all my hair?

Where can i get info on wigs??

Thanks

No you don't have to shave to wear a wig. I wore one for New Year's Eve! I have a pixie cut so I just put it on over that. They do have a hair net type thing you can put over your real hair and I would recommend that because mine became more itchy as the night went on. It was fun to wear it and got great reviews :)-

Unless you are losing your eyebrows or eyelashes you dont have to worry about totalis. I lost 90% of my head hair and it's still merely areata. I shaved my head because it was too stressful to hide everyday, I ended up buying a wig which I wear to work and on special occasions (I hear its good to let your head breath). Having a shaved head makes wigs easy but it's not vital.

Honestly the best advice I can give you is to just do what makes you feel best. There is no right or wrong way to deal with Alopecia it's just what suits you and makes you the most comfortable.

I found youtube reviews helpful when looking for wigs, I would look on websites and then search that type of wig on youtube to see how it looks on real people. I have a synthetic wig by Jon Renau which is low fuss, mid-cost and very believable (I have a picture in my album).

Good luck
