So I have 2 active patches ( I think active ) that has regrowth but long hair continues to fall out from that vicinity. The problem is, I cant figure out if they are exclamation hair or something else? Everywhere it says that exclamation point hairs are short stubby hair points  close to the scalp with a thin tapered end. The hair that falls out for me are  part of the existing long hair I have from around the patch, which is almost till below my shoulders, with it abruptly tapering down to white thin roots with a thick white bulb. But some of them that falls out show that they tapered down and became thin and then a few cms later they thickened up again like the rest of the strand and grew for like half an inch or maybe two inches and then again tapered and became thin and white and fell out with a white bulb. I think this shows that maybe it was inactive for a while and then suddenly became active again? This is unlike anything I’ve read about exclamation hair anywhere online. This disease is unique and frustrating at the same time. I’ll try uploading pictures later if I find any again when I brush my hair later.

I remember about twelve years before I even knew I had alopecia and before I lost my hair, I reported to my doctor that my hair roots were shaped like a bulb and I got no meaningful response from her.

I would not have known this was a symptom of anything all except that I had been reading and studying about hair.

Wanted to share my story. I went and had an allergy test ran and my whole life I didn't know that I was allergic to anything. Well it turns out that I had an egg white intolerance so it is causing inflammation on my scalp and causing my hair to fall out. I went to about 20 different doctors including dermatologist and they all said that it was alopecia areata without doing any tests. I finally went to a small-town doctor and they ran an allergy test and said that I was intolerant to egg whites. Well I was eating cartons of egg whites every week not knowing that I was intolerant because I had no other symptoms. I had no stomach problems I didn't get nauseous I had zero other symptoms. So I quit eating egg whites and all of my hair and immediately came back. It took about 4 months to get it back to it's original state, but here I am with a full head of hair and absolutely no loss, been growing hair for 9 months no problems since cutting out eggs. Anyway I came back hoping I could help at least one person.  This helped me.
