I was wondering whether anyone has/knows about anyone who has treated a dysfunction with their body that has resulted in remission of alopecia?

i vaguely remember reading an abstract from a medical journal about someone suffering AU and also had helicobacter pylori and once treated went into full remission of alopecia.

In my circumstances, I'm thinking of checking on some things with my GP in the near future;
a few years before my alopecia i think i was likely diagnosed with iron deficiency however it was not confirmed and im likely to get my thyroid function tested, and testosterone and estrogen levels just to rule out a few 'possible causes'

Anyone?
just curious!

Hi Nick! My nephew and I were both treated for Lyme disease and our hair grew back. His hair has been back for two years and my white hair is now filling in with my original dark hair. Also, I have eyebrows and lashes. My Lyme infection was hidden so I had to see a "Lyme literate" doctor to diagnose. I'm not completely convinced but it is strange that when my Lyme count decreased my dark hair started to grow back in the same way as my nephew. We lost our hair within 8 months of each other. It was awful.

Hi Liz,

what was the protocol you followed to get rid of your lyme disease? any changes to diet? what types of tests did you run? any help would be great. Thank u!

Those of us with AA, AT, and AU, look at all the other diseases and disorders we have in common.  Most of them are autoimmune.  I think there is something to it.  Inflammation seems to be the main culprit in all disease, and those in particular to autoimmune disease.  Does anyone here also have Scleroderma? Or Systemic sclerosis?

I found it that I was intolerant to eggs, I quit eating them and all of my hair came back.  I never knew that I was allergic to anything,  went to 20 different doctors and they all said alopecia areata. Went to a small town doctor and she gave me an allergy test and said that I was intolerant to eggs. My numbers are low though  .07 on a scale of 100 so the intolerance could have been easily missed but she caught it.  She told me to stop eating eggs.  I did and all of my hair is completely back.  It was causing inflammation on my scalp and my hair couldn't survive in that environment so it fell out.  But it is ALL back now that I stopped eating eggs.

I cant confidently say what causes alopecia but i do think it makes sense that theres something off in the body in people who have it. I think it varies for everyone and is hard to find, and then if you find it it can be harder to treat. But as for me, i have Lyme and Epstein barr virus and some other coinfections like mycoplasma, i have hashimotos, heavy metals, mold toxicity, along with other symptoms like eczema/awful unexplainable rashes, asthma, allergies, sinus infections,chronic fatigue, horrible acne, and many more i cant think of right now. I lost all the hair on my head, arms and legs, i lost 90% of my eyebrows only had a few hairs growing on them, i lost all my bottom eyelashes and half of my upper eyelashes on my left eye, and i lost a couple spots on my pubic area. The only spot that has never fallen out is my armpits..(yay me! the only spot i shave..) Anyway i got on a treatment called SOT that helps treat infections like lyme and ebv and is also a more natural alternative cancer treatment. My levels of ebv and lyme both went down, not to the point of remission, I'll probably need a couple more treatments. This is a very effective treatment however and it caused a lot of my symptoms to get better. My rashes/ eczema completely went away. Mind you ive had eczema since i was a year old. My allergies arent noticeable anymore, nor is my asthma. I can eat way more things without swelling up and having my whole body itch, i got more energy where i actually wanted to exercise and do things. My acne is more mild, and my eyebrows completely grew back, pigmented and all, my upper eyelashes grew in completely pigmented, my lower eyelashes grew in and are starting to gain pigment. While the treatment was in my system still i saw teeny tiny white baby hairs covering most of my head, i saw tiny white hairs all over my arms and very few on my legs, a patch on my pubic hair grew in completely and the other one is starting to with fine white baby hairs. Now its been three months of no treatment because its overseas and everything takes awhile. During these three months the baby hairs on my arms have thinned a bit, the hairs on my head gradually fell out. Everything else has stayed the same, still have my eyebrows and the lower eyelashes are slowly gaining pigment. Everything seems to have lined up with my treatment for lyme and ebv. I cant know for sure until i rid of everything completely but i do find it interesting and will definitely update when i get my next treatment. Its really easy to get discouraged with alopecia especially how confusing it is and how so many people say theres no reason for it happening other than genetics and bad luck pretty much. Like i said i cant know for sure but it makes more sense to me that your hair falls out when something is wrong in your body than your hair falling out for no reason at all. Especially for those of us with totalis and universalis. Okay thats my spiel. One more thing i want to say is i did find a very in depth list of lyme symptoms on a professional site (a .org) it listed every possible symptom of lyme and one they listed was alopecia. So if you have alopecia maybe get tested and rule it out.
